Re: For those of you interested in feminist issues(Original post by JackG1)
She says nothing of all the guys that have probably found her attractive but still been polite and respectful toward her. Just because a couple of guys in France were *******s doesn't mean we all are.
I was in Paris recently with my girlfriend and I have to say it is much worse there than anywhere else I've been in terms of how much men stare at women. And they're always arabic/eastern looking.
She never said anywhere that this was representative of what all men are like. Others have pointed out how absurd your argument is, so I won't add to it.
There you are making a generalisation about Arabic or Eastern-looking men. This thread is rife with hypocrisy

Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesI'm sick of entertaining your ridiculous arguments. You read from my comments what you want to read, not what is actually written. Bye!(Original post by redferry)
But black people AND white people do that sort of thing (stealing etc), which is why that would be racist.

Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesActually in many primate colonies the male would (and does) get his arse kicked by the female if he started harassing her, just saying.(Original post by Foo.mp3)
To an extent yes, how do you think we behaved before social conventions were formalised? What do we observe in primate colonies?
Sorry, I didn't mean to be condescending. It's just you post things you know people are going to disagree with and then when people construct a rational and reasoned argument against what you have said you accuse them of hating you and isolating you.(Original post by JackG1)
Perhaps I wasn't clear, sorry. "You" referred to die-hard feminists as a whole.
Please don't take that condescending tone.Last edited by redferry; 11-04-2012 at 18:35. -

Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesI can't ride a bike(Original post by JackG1)
Yeah, feminism can ride a bike. I'm done here.
does that mean I can't be a feminist?

Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesIf she had only noticed black people doing it then I would say she has an issue with confirmation bias (but that's besides the point). Stealing is not a race issue, ogling women IS a gender issue.(Original post by JackG1)
Okay, replace all the references to men in her article with "black person". Change "looked at my breasts" to "looked at my handbag". See how well that article now sits with you, and hopefully you can relate to my anger. -
Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesYeah, I did. I'm kind of disillusioned now to be honest, and I'm going to stop talking before you guys think I'm more of an idiot. Sorry if I offended you, but I get pretty annoyed at articles like that. It's just like the "remember not to do a rape!" adverts. We're not all like that!(Original post by Philbert)

Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesAnd equally we (feminists) are not all like that (believing men will rape given the change)(Original post by JackG1)

We're not all Germaine Greer you know. -
Re: For those of you interested in feminist issueshahah are you real?? This is EXACTLY what you've done to the article.(Original post by JackG1)

Good riddance! -
Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesI did not neg you, but maybe you were negged because a person should be entitled to express their opinion of who they feel is giving them a bad name. If they feel the unfavourable behaviour and consequential negative judgements on a minority of their 'group' is being generalised to them you can't attack them for pointing out that it is indeed a generalisation and it is unfair to assume they are the same. What else would you have them do? Shut up and take the slander?(Original post by Dragonfly07)
I have a very quick and important point to make here.
I'm sick and tired of feminists accusing other feminists of giving them a bad name. Of muslims saying muslim terrorists give them a bad name. Of men saying rapists give all men a bad name. Of black people saying black gangs give them a bad name. Making those statements makes you just as racist, sexist and/or homophobic as the people who are going to judge your whole group based on isolated cases. Grow up.
Edit: 5 negs is a lot. Any explanations of why you may disagree with the fact that stereotypes are wrong? I expect 5 responses.
You could have been more original and asked why she isn't in the kitchen.(Original post by RabbitCFH)
She sounds so PMS.
Do you have anything to base this on? There was certainly no suggestion of this in the Facebook note the OP has shared. Feminists are still campaigning because sexism and gender inequality are still very prevalent even here in the UK. It's all over this thread. It's in your post! Stop turning Feminism into something it's not just so you can justify slagging it off.(Original post by DontJudge)
But nowwwww, these radical feminists are crazy, they're wanting MORE power than men, and they somehow hate the male species. They are the reason as to why the normal ideology of 'feminism' contains such a negative connotation.
I hadn't thought of it that way before. Thank you for this different perspective. It would make her note feel very accusing towards black people.(Original post by JackG1)

Females do not treat other women, or in fact men, in the manner that that blog describes. Making it very different, and therefore justifiable to refer to it as a (minority of) 'men' issue rather than a 'people' issue -

I just thought I would share.
Have you considered breathing exercises? Stress balls even? Writing massive walls on text on a sub-par blogging web site probably isn't going to help. -
Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesIs it a minority of men issue? Almost every woman in this country can relate to having these experiences of harassment whether in this country or other countries. If it's truly a minority of men behaving in this way why have an incredible majority of women been victim to it?(Original post by redferry)

It might also be interesting to know if gay men experience the same kind and level of harassment from other gay men as women do from straight men. -
Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesNo. I'd rather they channeled their anger at at the people who generalise rather than at the people whose unpopular opinion has nothing to do with you.(Original post by Lunor)

Re: For those of you interested in feminist issuesWell I know a lot of men and only one of them does anything like this. Other than the bit about telling me not to take it so seriously. Just because the majority of women experience it does not mean most men do it - I would say it is definately far less than 50% of men that behave in this matter. Those that do unfortunately impact on a large number of women - they will follow maybe one woman a day, or wolf-whistle any that walk past.(Original post by Lunor)
Is it a minority of men issue? Almost every woman in this country can relate to having these experiences of harassment whether in this country or other countries. If it's truly a minority of men behaving in this way why have an incredible majority of women been victim to it?

As for the second point, yes, that would be very interesting. -

'Incredible majority'
Only certain types of girls are the recipients of these sorts of things. For example your average white van man isn't going to wolf whistle at a pensioner, a fat chick or even a bearded woman. These groups probably consist of a large percentage of the female population hence your claims are wrong.
I suggest conducting research before making such bold statements again.
As for 'If it's truly a minority of men'. Shockingly the sort of people who howl at girl's don;t usually do it monogamously. To do some simple maths:
If Jim the builder goes out every Friday for 4 hours and harasses a girl every second trip, how many girl's will he have harassed in a year?
The correct answer is 26. So even if only 1/26th of men were involved in such antics, all the girls could potentially be targets.
Feminist argument destroyed.
does that mean I can't be a feminist?
