Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012Wasn't it NH2CH2CH2NH2 that was the ligand not water....is it same charge then?(Original post by InkyOne)
+3 - water was the ligand (and carries no charge) so the charge came from the central metal ion -
Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012Exactly how i feel at the moment as well! Oh well i'm sure they'll get the grade boundaries down...all we can do is wait for results day....*sigh*(Original post by InkyOne)
I must say, this whole thread is just leading to one massive facepalm for me... I thought I knew it before the exam, I understand it now, but whilst in the exam? Nothing
Bye bye Uni! I'm off to join the circus!

Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012Do yall think il get the mark for saying chromium was the stronger reducing agent, rather than the other way around?(Original post by bateson1992)
Iron was the stronger oxidising agent
electrons flow from most negative to least negative, chromium is -0.74 iron is -0.44, iron redued
Cr-----> Cr3+ 3e- -
Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012Thats what I got too, I hope were right(Original post by icedragon)
So I did moles of Na2CO3 = 0.6625/106 = 6.25 x 10^-3. The moles of that in 10.8cm^3 is given by (6.25 x 10^-3) x (10.8/1000) = 6.75 x 10^-5. Its a 1:2 ratio from the equation so doubling that gives 1.35 x 10^-4 moles of cinnamic acid. Multiplying that by the Mr gives 0.0200 (to 4sf which the whole question was in) grams of cinnamic acid.
That's what I got anyway.
I don't wanna have to redo the year or anything

Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012
can we have more votes on http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=2036476 to predict grade boundaries (: thanks

Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012I didn't notice it until 2mins before the "Pens down", I'm sure it said 'end of questions' before that question though haha, and there normally is lots of additional lined paper at the back...(Original post by bsyedg)
Please, please, please tell me there is someone else who didn't see the 5 mark calculation on the back?! D:
I finished 10mins early, then checked through most of my answers then decided to flip the paper over and saw the 5 marks and lots of information and concentrations and volumes, heart sank! -
Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012100% you will never make that mistake again :P I always check the back of every paper just out of curiosity before the test starts.(Original post by sydney07)

Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012For an A? yeah that's why i'm thinking....because there were so many places where you could make small silly mistakes and so lose so many marks!(Original post by InkyOne)
Grade boundaries predictions anyone? My guess would be a pretty average 64-65... -
Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012They do, it says "please turn over for question 4f or 4whatever", and at the end it says "End of paper" :P(Original post by bssjonny)
I think that at the end of all tests where there is a question on the back page, they should have written on the page before that, "THERE IS A QUESTION ON THE NEXT PAGE!" -
Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012Yeah, I won't!(Original post by Oliverfk93916)

My next (and last
) exam is biology on Friday, and the last question is worth 25 marks! So I think I'll keep my eye out for that one haha

Re: OCR B F334 - Chemistry of Materials - 19th June 2012I completely agree! Under exam pressure it's so easy to miss things like that... there was also a gap between the last (ehem second the last) question and the bottom of the page, so my eyes just skimmed it. Ah! Such an idiot.(Original post by bssjonny)
