How to start AS Biology revision for Unit 1 AQA?
Hi everyone,
I'm resitting my Unit 1 Biology exam in May, as in January I didn't try at all and ended up with a U
So now I want to get organised and get some good revision done to make sure I get a C or above this time.
How have you guys revised so far?
Any useful revision resources I could use for Biology 1?
Thanks,
A xxxxxxxxxxx

Re: How to start AS Biology revision for Unit 1 AQA?
I need to get my Unit 1 grade up from a C to an A, so I'm just repeating things people have told me about good revision here. But as a year 13 whose about to do her final exams I can tell you this - DO PUT THE EFFORT IN OR YOU WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE SO MUCH HARDER. I'm resitting both AS biology units in May, as well as one psychology unit, and then in June I have three more exams - it's horrible, and I'm working flat out to try and make the grades I know I can get, if I'd just got my act together a little earlier.
Things I've been told for revision - Do all the past papers and practice exam questions you can get your hands on, and MARK THEM. Without really noticing, it means you become more adept at understanding what the examiner is looking for in the way they've phrased the question. Do the summary and application questions as well. It's boring and time consuming, but worth it. As you get closer to the exam, do a couple of timed exam papers to make sure you're managing to complete in time.
Learn the definitions for keywords. Any words in bold on the pages, all the words in the glossary at the back - write them out over and over and get people to test you on them. Break them down by Chapter - so once you've finished revising Chapter one, make a keywords list for it and learn it. Keep it and retest yourself between now and the exam.
Don't just read the book. Make notes as you read, make flashcards, close the book and make a spider diagram about a topic in one colour and then open it and add anything you forgot in a different one.
That's all I can think of for now! Work hard and you'll do fine. Good luck!

Re: How to start AS Biology revision for Unit 1 AQA?
Read through the entire textbook for unit one and turn each section into no more than a page notes.
Then get someone to read through your notes and get them to question you on them.
Once you have the knowledge down go onto past papers so you can work on your 'exam technique' and cement your knowledge.
This was the technique i used for my Unit 2 retake, I did this for two hours a day and i went from a low C to A*.
Good Luck -
Re: How to start AS Biology revision for Unit 1 AQA?Try going on a day-long revision conference. The examiners run loads of them this time of year (It suplements their pensions ;-)(Original post by chasingdreams)

Re: How to start AS Biology revision for Unit 1 AQA?
1. Don't revise the syllabus but actually understand the syllabus.
2. Do as many papers as possible and memorise how a mark scheme answers generic questions. i.e enzyme structure, heart pump etc.
3. Do short bursts of revisions rather than long hours. It never works.
If you do all this, you will get an A no doubt.
So now I want to get organised and get some good revision done to make sure I get a C or above this time.
