    'City Travel Review' experiences?
Anyone ever been on a placement with City Travel Review? I'm interested as it's exactly the sort of thing I want to do this summer, preferably in Berlin. Only thing I'm a little wary of is that the site doesn't mention any costs and I can't find any people around the net who've done it before to read their experiences

So if anyone knows anything about it or has done it before I'd love to hear your experiences

    Hi,
I'm wondering the exact same thing at the moment, the lack of information on their web page makes me a bit suspicious.

I did find this review online on 'journalism.co.uk' but it basically just repeats everything on the website....

If you find anything out please let me know!

    Thanks

Got an email response for their team. From the sounds of it, you pay £900 a month for accommodation and language lessons, then you pay for everything else yourself and work to produce a leaflet for them. Not my thing at all, it seems.

citytravelreview was totally übercool when I was there. Was there a while back though in Berlin in the summer class. They do some other locations now other than Berlin and Edinburgh. But Berlin is the biggest project. Made some great buddies but guess it depends on the team your are working in? Berlin has to be one of the coolest cities in Europe with the nicest kebabs and the most laid back atmosphere!
was so damn cheap and is relatively cheap now for food and hitting bars. Cash - had my fee paid by my Uni at the time and you can usually get this paid by them via the careers office if you get on the project
hi point - Sternburg beer mixed with Badeschiff
lo point - not staying long enough

Hey I'm taking part in one of their Madrid projects this summer and I am looking forward to it but the information they have provided has been quite vague, once you express your interest with them, they do give you some information i.e. price and what the project involves, but apparently they give more information around 4weeks before you leave, I am still waiting for this information because I have not paid the full amount yet but I am soon ha. I am very excited for it but also a bit nervous seen as I am going by myself. Anyone else going n any of the projects this year???

It was one of the earlier ones in July 07 after I graduated when they used to do the 6 week projects. My German is a bit rusty now but still know how to order a kebab!

Hi, I'm just wondering what the age range of the people taking part in this project is? I've just come across a posting by them on Gumtree and it all sounds rather interesting. Only problem is I'm now 25 years old (which is ancient!) and I was wondering if I'm too old for this sort of thing? I actually have a degree in Journalism and I speak German, so I'd be quite interested in their Berlin project. I just don't want to be the old man in the group! Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hi Fuzzy Duck,
I am 24and doing the Berlin project next month. I was wondering if I was going to be the oldest person there too, but I'm guessing if I've applied, and you've thought about applying then there will be people of a similar age in the same position. Hope so anyway!

    Hi there,
I'm hoping to take part in the Lyon project this year and I am also wondering if there are any with the CTR experience? It sounds like a great project to be a part of but the information they provide is quite vague, so any tips would greatly appreciated.

Well my experience was really coolio - staff were super nice, atmosphere was electric. Was on a couple of years ago. Few of us met up again in London. The first time I applied I didn't get on cause I applied late....but then applied following year. Hey! Now I feel old as I was 26. Age range was really a mixed bag but would say most were in their twenties. But all came from really different backgrounds. We had a blast! Was quite hard work but in a way didn't really feel like working sometimes. Definitely beats sitting in front of a computer in a dark office all summer in the UK with lousy weather learning absolutely nothing. CTR was one of the best things I did to get out of a rut as I got to do all the fun things in a job that you don't usually get to do plus at least get a chance to learn a language in a fun way.

Drumroll please.................would recommend. Depends though what kind of reasons you are going for? They picked some fun people on our project and language classes were related to travel and writing mainly. I found it quite intense at the beginning but must say was way too much fun. The experiences made were more than you could put on a CV. I ended up going into a better working environment because of city travel review. Only problem is that first 2-3 days felt like never ending and then the time flies by! At the end we ended up in Studio 54 on Oranienburg strasse.....then major hangover on easyjet plane. Kind of sad now

Originally I was just gonna go to a language school but because of the costs of going to good one decided against it and also just didn't wanna use all time learning German. I knew about CTR a while back from my Uni and a few friends. I liked the concept and the fact it was quite authentic and not so commercial like things like Bunac. I later saw it featured on Guardian jobs online and got on. I was in finance and had no writing experience etc....also knew I didn't want to sit around making cups of tea in some poxy office. Most of the guys on our project were Brits, we had some US and Aussies. Meetings and workshops were fun. Some in Uni , some already in all sorts of jobs. Our language teacher was really funny. The project success depends on how much you get involved as their are plenty of chances. Some of the other members went on to work for CTR freelancing and some got jobs through doing it or uni credits. Keep in touch with a few.

Was Suuuuuuppppeeerrr. Has a slight erasmus style feel to the projects. They are now more well known so hope they don't become too big with team sizes! I actually knew few people that were on Edinburgh and Berlin who recommended the project as it was more alternative.

Would agree with others as people make the project. Stumbled again on it in Cambridge student paper when I visitied a friend but ......Wouldn't say all were students though? Few early thirties but guess most in twenties. Was definitely worth it in terms of language learning and work experience.....or just doing something more of the wall, look forward to the reunion.
