Am I delusional?
Sorry for the odd title, a thought just came to me about how many of us there are trying to get into this field of work, is there anyone signed up to these forums that have already attained their degree and was lucky enough to get straight into the industry? Or is there anyone who knows of some stories about breaking into the investment banks?
For such well paid jobs I know its going to be highly competitive, but I just don't want to find myself being unable to get employed after getting all good grades/degree's and relative work experience. Any sob stories relevant to this scenario that anyone knows of?

Re: Am I delusional? You may have a good job now, but you still went to a worse uni than most here ever will(Original post by TitanicTeutonicPhil)
Yup, got straight into the industry, without even interning. Then did an MA at a 'non-target', and
got an even better job in consulting, earning more than most here ever will. Easy.

Re: Am I delusional? Not that I'm supporting Mr Big Head, but wouldn't you rather have a good job than a good uni? Seems a given.(Original post by salmon1)

Re: Am I delusional?
Hard question to answer really, most people who have been successful will be slaving away in Canary Wharf rather than sat on TSR. I expect I'd probably stop using TSR if I got into an IB, except for the odd occasional spot of advice I'd give on IB threads of course.
Edit: A friend of mine is at UCL studying Chemistry, she's a first year and just spent a spring week at Citi. Obviously not at the end yet, but she's on her way I suppose?

This pathetic dick waving attitude is hindering a lot of people on here to get into IB/Consulting and for some it seems to be a gate-opener.
No matter which side you are on, it must be a miserable life to live. -

Re: Am I delusional? How old are you? 18? You seem to know nothing about work life.(Original post by Spurious)
And some on here went to target universities and earn more than you ever will.
After the first two jobs, it doesn't matter what university you went
to - only your persona and performance counts.
Nevertheless there are a few people here who will earn more than I do.
I can live with that, knowing that I'll always be in the top 15 percentile.
Sorry, off to the airport now, business trip to London. -
Re: Am I delusional?Well done. You make a lot of money. I can tell how fulfilled it makes you feel from the way you still feel the need to wave your dick around in front of a bunch of students.(Original post by TitanicTeutonicPhil)

Business trip to London:
Ich glaub im modernen Sprachgebrauch ist das mit Wanne-Eickel gleichzusetzen, hier gibts nicht, schon gar nicht für Berater.Last edited by Spurious; 02-05-2012 at 22:40.
