How do you actually become a top surgeon?
I was watching embarrassing bodies a couple of days ago and i keep hearing things like "top surgeon" "one of the best in the uk"

I mean, how can you measure it?
    Mortality rates?
    Number of academic articles published?
    Experience?
    :dontknow:

    Just curious :cookie:

    yes

    mortality rate
    complication rate
    readmission rates
    and general measure of outcomes

The main problem though is that you can't always compare your results against other people because
    (1) there may not alway be other people doing what you do
    (2) the type of patients you deal with may not be the same as that of other surgeons (eg your patients have severe comorbidities etc)
    (3) you don't have many patients of each type to have proper stats.
