Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...Ohhh never knew that !!! Thankz !!(Original post by RobertWhite)
I looked into it and sometimes people experience hallucinations in this state. So some people have seen demons, hissing cats, hands straggling them from the wall, their plant straggling them, weird demon like horses etc...

Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...Lots of people don't get enough sleep. This state is far from common. It is very rare and it wouldn't be expected for you to have it.(Original post by Dmon1Unlimited)
I've had many times where I haven't slept for very long periods. Bit weird why I haven't experienced this ever. What happens with me is that I just sleep a long time... If some wakes me up, I get up with sore eyes.. -
Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...I thought it was an effect of very long hours I.e. way way longer than all nighters(Original post by RobertWhite)

It sounds scary but interesting

Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...Yeah that can help towards it but it's still really rare. Most people just aren't accustomed to getting it.(Original post by Dmon1Unlimited)

Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...
Just out of interest, does anyone think there is a supernatural element to this at all ? Or do you totally accept the explanation that scientists give ?
I haven't researched it too much, but I wonder why this 'old hag' is so common, and why the experience of sleep paralysis is enarly always so negative and terrifying, why don't people have little leprechauns jumping on them or something ?
I read that some people believe its your soul leaving your body, like on the film inisidious or something, its all quite interesting

Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...I don't think there's any supernatural element, no. People tend to see the same thing because of common culture and/or hearing about it so that is how their mind forms the presence.(Original post by Like a BAWS)

Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...I really don't think there is a supernatural element either. I'm pretty sure the movement I felt on my bed was my heart beating super fast, it was just exaggerated by the whole experience.(Original post by Like a BAWS)

Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...The strange thing is that I have been sleep deprived for way longer before but what made this episode different was that I had been awake for well over a day twice this week. I slept for 12 hours and then ignored my alarm and went back to sleep... I think the sleep paralysis was just my bodys way of telling me it was time to get up, but I was technically still in deep sleep hence the feeling of drowsiness when I eventually lifted my head because, as soon as I got out of bed, I was wide awake - Thats my own explanation anyway :P(Original post by Dirac Delta Function)
Sounds pretty cool! I wouldn't mind experiencing this. I've been away 36+ hours numerous times, never experienced anything like it.
Either way I've learnt there is nothing to be scared about, I was initially scared to go back to bed, but I kinda want to experience SP again this time with my eyes open

Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...I also apparently get the 'tetris effect' after i've been playing COD for several hours on end when I feel sleepy and close my eyes I still feel as though im playing the game and shooting people :P(Original post by st_23)
I'm sure this happened to me once years ago when i was falling asleep. It felt really strange and I got scared haha but managed to get myself out of it pretty quickly -
Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...Apparently it is very common to feel as if there is a presence of another person or being in the room when you experience sleep paralysis. People often report a demon, monster or other person in the room, even if (like you) they couldn't see or physically feel anything there. I think I've heard theories that it's something to do with separate parts of your brain interacting and dualising somehow? Although I'm not sure where I heard that. But I know that it's common to feel like there's someone or something else there.(Original post by Mudya)
It just didn't feel right. Not being able to open my eyes, move my body or speak was scary enough, but I could feel something on my bed... the movement started at the top of my bed, then beside me (although nothing touched me), then back at the top. If I let the feeling take over my head felt 'heavy' and the movement on my bed became more noticeable. I felt drowsy throughout and wanted to fall back to sleep after I had regained control of my body, but I had already been sleeping for around 13 hours (had not slept for 32 hours beforehand), so it was time to get up, and now I'm wide awake.I understand that many people report this kind of thing during sleep paralysis, mine didn't last very long, I focused on wriggling my toes, and that got me out of it. But feeling the movement on my bed was the worst part - I guess I just want some reassurance that it was all in my head... Also, I would be interested to hear other sleep paralysis stories.
I've had a sleep paralysis which lead into a nightmare about there being some kind of humanoid/monster/demon thing in my room. I had my eyes open but couldn't move, but the being was in my dressing gown, which was hanging on the back of the door. Of course I didn't actually see anything, but I 'knew' it was there. It was pretty scary, but it did wake up after just a moment or two. More often when I get sleep paralysis, there is no hallucination aspect, I am just fully awake, normally with eyes open, and after a few seconds I am able to move again. I have found that forcing myself to make some kind of vocal noise can help me wake myself up fully.

Edit:
Thought I'd quote you in because of my explanation of what I think is behind the common 'old hag' experience. I don't think there's a supernatural element.(Original post by Like a BAWS)

Re: I experienced sleep paralysis today...Haha yeah i sometimes get that if i've had a really long day at work and finished late and its kinda like im half awake and half asleep. It's like I'm still at work and i keep waking up. I really hate it. I also had it when i was younger from playing games(Original post by Moscardini)
