how can i edit a locked word document?

    how can i edit a locked word document?
    basically ive not got microsoft word, but the coursework that i have to complete is on microsoft word and i cannot access it.

    any ideas/alternatives?

    Get either LibreOffice or OpenOffice. I'd also suggest downloading a portable version of one or the other and putting it on a USB pen - very handy if you're a student and are moving from computer to computer and never know what software you will have available.

    You need to be more specific here. Can you open the file, but can't edit it, or can you not open the file at all?

    If it's the latter, what error message do you get?

    What is the file extension on the file - .rtf, .doc, .docx?

    What version of Office are you using to open the file?
