how can i edit a locked word document?

Re: how can i edit a locked word document?Get either LibreOffice or OpenOffice. I'd also suggest downloading a portable version of one or the other and putting it on a USB pen - very handy if you're a student and are moving from computer to computer and never know what software you will have available.

basically ive not got microsoft word, but the coursework that i have to complete is on microsoft word and i cannot access it.

What is the file extension on the file - .rtf, .doc, .docx?
What version of Office are you using to open the file?
