How did your father or mother punish you?

Re: How did your father or mother punish you?Depended on the situation- mostly I got shouted at etc, and sometimes a smack.
We also used to have a 'naughty step' where you got sent if you'd done something wrong.
I recall a time when my sister and I decided to paint the kitchen green, and we were sent to our bedrooms with no tea. No food? the ultimate punishment.
I think they were mostly justified, although my dad definitely had a tendancy to lose his temper without reason, and this terrified me as a kid. He's much better now though

I always used to get a slap on the face or leg and we also had the 'naughty step' or on very bad occasions we would get sent to our rooms! -

Re: How did your father or mother punish you?Get shouted at, a smack, anything that was important to us taken off us, so no cuddly toys as i got older it was my phone that was taken away my mum snapped the sim card once.
Thing is im 20 and im still being told off this way, i still get a slap across the face and my phone taken of me... roll on uni -

But then again I was the kind of kid who would fall to pieces when anyone raised their voice at me.
I still do. I really need to learn how to grow a pair.

Do you feel they were justified in doing so and what lesson has it taught you?
casual beating
using me as a human ash tray
hanging me upside down from the stairs
setting the dog on me
pouring hot tea/coffee on me
whipping me with a coat hanger
throwing random things at me (lampshades, glasses, knives, the tv you get the picture)
oh and locking me in my room for a couple of days. no food no toilet...
why did they do it?
verying from
leaving the house and not telling them
returning to the house and not telling them
speaking
making eye contact
getting my own food rather than being given it
sharing with my siblings
going to school
not going to school
do i feel they were justified?
most of the time
apart from when they would say they got me a "surprise" and would just slap me across the face.
what did it teach me? to be tough, to have respect and be modest. -

Re: How did your father or mother punish you?Aha I was the same. I hated my parents shouting at me properly so I tried to avoid it. I was always awful when teachers at primary school shouted as well - I just didn't get why my classmates would try to wind them up!(Original post by youbonkers)

There was the occasional time where I have been grounded, and my Gameboy was hidden from me, but apart from that not much. It was more when I got into my teenage years where the nagging matches started.. -

Re: How did your father or mother punish you?Shouted at, occassional smack, sent to my room... one time when I was little I went out to play and my mam lcoked the door so she could clean the living room in peace. This felt like the biggest punishment ever, and it wasn't even a punishment! My books were all inside....

Re: How did your father or mother punish you?My dad would grab my arm so I couldn't get away, then give me a pretty rough smack on the arse, which would really sting. I remember trying to basically thrust my hips forward trying to avoid the inevitable smack on my bum
He also used to grab me by the ear so I couldn't get away and if I tried to it'd really hurt. So I'd have to stand there listening to him lecture me on what I'd done wrong.
I think it's pathetic that you can't do this anymore. I have respect for authority and don't act like I can do what I want; I understand consequences. If this hadn't been part of my upbringing I'd be a completely different person. There's a difference between using punishments to exert some control on your kids and teach them a lesson, and simply beating your kids because you got angry they fizzed up your 10th beer you made them bring you.
My mum also took away my xbox controllers. Grounding me made no sense whatsoever so I wasn't ever grounded. -
