    Help with question please.
Its from the Edexcel FP3 book. exercise 4B question 8c.
    Use appropriate identities to find

    integrate [cosh^2(3X))/sinh^2(3X)]

    Answer: X - 1/3 coth(3X) +C

    thanks

    \displaystyle \int \frac{\cosh ^23x}{\sinh ^23x}=\int \coth ^23x=\int 1+cosech^2(3x)

From here it's just a standard result.

So has your teacher got access to the old questions rearranged for the new modules? Tell him/her that they are in Graham's Emporium under "Practice papers".

If that doesn't work, get back to me.
Yeah i found them online. Thanks for the advice. Not sure if i'm going to do it now or wait till close to the exam. Don't want to overprep now and forget everything when the exam comes.

    \displaystyle I_{n}=\int_{0}^{\sinh^{-1}1}\sinh ^n(x)dx

    Show that:

    nI_{n}=\sqrt{2}-(n-1)I_{n-2}

    Any ideas?

I was in exactly the same position as you a couple of weeks ago. Chapter 2 mixed is painful. Thankfully, the actual exam questions don't seem to be too bad.

Yeah the last 2 chapters are hard to self teach. Livemaths seems really good for this. Matrices aren't as bad as Vectors (IMHO) so it might be worth starting with those although vectors do pop up in one or two of the questions. How are you finding the integration?
I found calculus in general quite simple compared to chapters 2, and 5. I mean, what is a unit vector? difference between scalar dot product and vector cross product? I kind of remember this from m1 but I do not have the book any more. I could do the questions, it's just that I don't think I have the understanding down.

You could try splitting sinh into sinh and sinh^(n-1), then use integration by parts. You probably done this already haha.

Integration by parts twice should work.

The transformation question in FP2 2011 is quite interesting by the way.

They should scrap D1+D2 and bring back S5+S6 and M6, maybe make C1+C2 into one module.

I reckon they should stop moist youts from doing every maths module existent before they apply to uni......then again who does that.....MUADNESS!!!

Yeah it's like WTF at the beginning. Get the edexcel FP3 book. It explains most bits well. for a unit vector, you basically write the vector out and divide it by its modulus.

Scalar dor product -> you get a number

Vector cross product -> you get a vector

Both have useful applications, i.e. finding the area of a triangle etc..

The question was ment to have a part before it leading you into a really nice trick but the paper i was doing didn't include it. Thanks though

No, not just death. I want it to be locked up in permanent spiked chastity, forced to worship the feet of the many women who were forced to go through D1 and be caned and whipped eternally. And as for D2, we can have it castrated and forced to become a sissy maid.

I qualified for BMO1 but my teacher said it's best to focus on that stuff next year so like a good little boy I listened and did well in my Year 12 AS exams.

I am ready to spunk all over FP2 and FP3, bring it on!
