Yeah i agree with your analysis.

There are definitions in the S1 exam. Also, learn the diagram on page 3 it can come up. Arsey had a great set of revision notes for S1 which helped me. I think there were definitions on it. I've uploaded them with this post.

The guy above me summarises my views on decision 'maths' pretty well. I would happily take part in a decision textbook burning event. It's not that it's difficult, on the contrary, it's ridiculously easy. It's just so tedious *shudders* and the stuff you study is useless.
I already have these Arsey notes, although i didn't went through them, will study them before the exam, but thanks for it.

I was once having a discussion with Arsey and he said this:
    (Original post by Arsey)
    ...

Self teaching D1 and D2 is not easy because it is actually very difficult to learn algorithms that are written down, it is far easier when they are demonstrated by example. However, they are nice modules and pretty interesting. Mathematicians love the abstract beauty of Mathematics, but Decision is the most modern and relevant Mathematics you are ever likely to do.

The new D1 and D2 text books are okay but have loads of mistakes in the solutions; hopefully, they have corrected them in the very latest editions.

If you are going to do D1, I would definitely recommend doing D2.
    ...
See the text in bold and underlined, though i see many people criticizing D1 but Arsey likes it, why is it, any idea?

I won't criticize Arsey, he helps a lot during the exams, by uploading the solutions.

How did you find decision maths?

Has anyone got like some FP3 papers that are compiled from old spec papers?
Not past year papers, but just past FP3 exam questions if you know what i mean? ;P x

Decision mathematic in general is useful in fields like computing. However, the stuff you learn in D1 is useless. I have a friend who went into computing after completing 18 modules of maths at A level. He said studying Decision did not give him an advantage and that almost all of the content is so watered down that it became irrelevant. It's either love it or hate it tbh. No need to say which group i belong to

Attached with post. I can't attach the MS because it's too big. You can get them from the link in the OP.

Decision maths is easy but many mathematicians don't like it because it is repetitive and boring and relies on not making a small slip somewhere not your maths ability.

    Grade Boundaries:

    FP2:

    Code:
    Session	100'	90'	80'	70'	60'	50'	40'
    Jun-09	74	66	58	50	42	34	26
    Jun-10	74	67	60	53	46	39	33
    Jun-11	--	68	62	55	48	41	35

    FP3:

    Code:
    Session	100'	90'	80'	70'	60'	50'	40'
    Jun-09	62	56	50	44	38	32	26
    Jun-10	74	68	62	55	48	41	34
    Jun-11	--	67	60	53	46	40	34
Just to make this part more complete, in June '11 it was 74 raw marks in both FP2/3 for 100UMS.

I just wanted to tell that in june 2011 74 marks were required to score full in FP3, but for FP2 full marks(75 raw marks) were required to score 100UMS.

Can you please tell me, how did you calculate 74 as full marks for FP2?

Will start revision for this after M4 exam is over... one half-term should be enough to go over the content. S4 and FP2 are on the same day, as are FP3 and M5.
    Only 2 negs

No FP3 was also 74 and I didn't 'calculate' it; see attachment.

I don't but it's not too important. You can try and find the stuff individually by comparing it with the FP3 resource pack.

I'll try and find out from my teachers what it is. I'll keep it at 74 for now unless proven otherwise.

My calcuation shows that 75 raw marks were required for 100UMS in FP2, while 74 raw marks were required for 100 UMS in FP3.

Its better we ask Arsey, i can't see my calculation to be wrong.

According to my knowledge we add the double the difference of A and B to A to find the maximum UMS grade boundary. So the formula is A+2(A-B).

I used to think this was the case too, until I learned that the boundary for 100 UMS was 74 for S2 Jan 2012 due to an ambiguous question.

Can you please give the source.
