    Calling all musicians!!!
Any musicians going to Portsmouth in September (2012)? Or any musicians at Portsmouth already?

I've been playing guitar for 6 years now and I'd call myself a singer/songwriter and mainly a rhythm guitarist, I've done a few gigs here and there and been in a few bands, just wondering if anyone else is musically orientated?

I play guitar and bass but I wouldn't say I'm amaze.
I'm not sure if I'll take my bass down with me tho,
by the looks of it University accommodation isn't too spacious :P

I'm in James Watson, bought my bass and mini amp down and not had an issue with space - I could have bought my keyboard with me as well and still have room to spare

    Hey,

Yeah I'm starting at Portsmouth in September. I'm definitely planning on taking my acoustic guitar down with me. I doubt I'll take my electric/amp because there just won't be enough space and it'll probably make too much noise.

I've played guitar for about a year now. I'm not incredible but I know what I'm doing! :P I play some piano/keyboard and I'm okay and I often sing but I have no idea if I'm good or not. Never tried song-writing but I plan to.

I've only really played with a few friends and never in a serious band. I'd definitely like to keep playing when I get to Uni and hopefully get together with some other musical people.

I have a really cool device (Boss Micro Br 80) and it's tiny but I play my electric through that, put my head phones on and practise tracks, I won't be taking my amp down because I definitely won't be using a 10 watt amp at gigs!

I hope there will be a few people down there who play instruments, I mean I know Portsmouth isn't really known for it's music, but from what I can tell learning an instrument is becoming more popular!

I look forward to meeting your acquaintance :P

I cant remember the wattage of my amp but its pretty beefy and I can't really afford to take up much more space. It's still a beast and I love it. I've seen little amps before and they look quite useful actually.

I hope I can meet some more musical people at Pompy cos I really am interested in starting up something proper. I love me some band-practise. And I'd love to look into performing but I don't think I'm quite brave enough. :P

Can I ask what you're studying there btw?

Feel free to drop me a PM!

I'm looking at getting a new amp, as mine is only a cheeseburger compared to other amps which are double big macs (did you see what I did there? haha!)

I'm sort of dipping in and out of bands at them moment but I'd like to have something more cemented when I'm at uni, but I'll take each day as it comes!

I'll hopefully be studying Sport and Exercise Science, what about you? I was actually down there on Saturday for my open day

And I will as soon as I work out how to :P

I was there on Saturday for my open day too! I might have seen you without knowing. :P I'm going to be studying Television and Broadcasting. It was my first time in Portsmouth and I really liked it!

I'm probably just going to stick to acoustic atm. I've started learning the Ukulele too.

Have you applied for halls at all? And I think to PM you just click on my username and it should come up.

I did ask someone for directions, but he was studying Geography so I don't think that was you haha! But Television and Broadcasting sounds really cool, you'll have to tell me all about in September

I applied for accomodation about a month ago now? I put Guildhall as my preference and self catered because I like to cook a lot as well as other reasons, but that's just long to explain!

I'd definitely say my genre is acoustic, but I've been in a 'rock/alternative/pop' band covering all different types of songs

Yeah, Guildhall is my preference too. Don't want catered and fingers crossed I get en-suite! I really hope there's going to be other people in my halls/course that are into music! Really wanna get together with musical minded people. You'll have to keep in touch with what halls you end up in! :P

My genre is acoustic/indie/alternative too. I love Radiohead atm, and also got back into listening to The Verve. Love me the 90's. :P

I was mainly in a place called the Elden Building and Parkhall building on Saturday. It was part of the creative technologies open day.

Yeah my fingers are crossed for Guildhalls, they are really popular! But we'll see how things go, how funny would it be if we ended up in the same block?!

I started out in Parkhall (I think) and then walked over to the Spinnaker building where all my lessons will take place, I can't quite remember where the Eldon building is, but I'll look out for it now!

I love all types of music, I really love my 50's and upwards, I love a bit of radiohead and I think I've heard of The Verve, but I'll check them out anyway!

Can't believe we have to wait until July for halls, but hey! The suspense is good, right?

Haha, yeah! That'd be a coincidence although not sure how I'd tell! :P

Yeah, Parkhall is where we got put into groups and stuff. I was actually parked up at the Spinnaker building. Seems nice around there and the library looks really good. Also went down the the Spinnaker tower. Can't believe I'm going to be living so near the sea!

Yeah, my music taste is so broad it's ridiculous. Love my 80's, 70's, adore the 90's. I can be found listening to Pink Floyd and then Deadmau5 straight after. Haha.

The wait is going to be horrible, and as much as I really would love en-suite/non-catered, as long as I get into halls I'm good. (But I really would prefer Guildhalls. :P ) I applied quite early... maybe a four weeks ago? So, fingers crossed! :P

Well in July we can tell each other what building we got

Parking is hard to find in Portsmouth so we played it safe and parked in Gunwharf Quays, where did you come from? I live in London (yay not) and I can't wait to be by the sea!

To be honest, as long as I get a place in halls, I don't mind, majority of my friends are at uni now, some have en-suite, some don't, I have 2 friends at Portsmouth already and they said they love it, so I'm going on what their experiences are like

    So excited though

I came from Oxfordshire, so not too bad of a drive! :P We parked just opposite the University Library, next to the tennis court.

I've got one friend in Portsmouth already and he says it's really good. Hopefully it'll be good for me as it his for him. He's currently just finishing his first year however I took a gap year so I'm now kinda one year behind him. It seems as if most people are going to be a year younger than me! :P

Not long to wait now! :P Are you still in the middle of A2?

Ahh so you're only up a really long road from me! :P

All my friends are older than me and will be in yr 3 when I start!

I'm actually doing Sport Science Btec so yeah you could say I'm in the middle of A2 and currently I'm on track to getting my grades, I have 6 weeks left to finish all my units and make sure I've gotten what I need, which isn't too hard as I like to be on top of things and get things done

Got any other hobbies besides music?
