How will I be graded if I do not attend A2 components in AL examination
I had a query regarding how would I be graded if I have registered myself as an GCSE A level candidate for AL examination if as due to certain circumstances I won't be able to attend any of the A2 component of certain subject. For example, I will only attend the AS component of Economics and do not attend any of its A2 components, and may get an A grade for AS and X grade for A2 in splits. How would I be graded in the statement of result and the certificate of result? Will I be graded maybe D(d) for overall A Level or A(a) just for AS, or will I get separate certificate for AS grade. I have recently registered for three AL subjects for the recent session, and won't be able to attend the A2 components of one of the subjects. I'm aware that its too late for any changes to be made in my registration as all the level of entries for registrations have been passed. Is there any procedure involved if I just want to be graded for AS. I would really appreciate for your efforts for helping me out in this situation.

Re: How will I be graded if I do not attend A2 components in AL examinationYou will get an AS Qualification under CIE. I'm not sure about other boards.(Original post by bbestbilal)

Re: How will I be graded if I do not attend A2 components in AL examinationIt will depend on what certification you have been entered for ... you need to speak to your exams officer ... if you want to be certified for the AS you may need to change(Original post by bbestbilal)

Your responses are much appreciated Azland and TenOfThem.
I had applied for CIE AL certification, in which we have to participate in AS and A2 components in just one session. That's why I'm so concerned about the grading. The examination officers don't seem to be helpful because its too late for any modification to be made in my registration as my exams are held in just about 3 weeks. It would be much reasonable for me if they grade me just for AS and not for the entire AL in that particular subject. Will they qualify me just for AS by themselves or is there any procedure involved which I have to carry out? -
Re: How will I be graded if I do not attend A2 components in AL examinationThey qualify all candidates for AS regardless if you request it or not. Like for example if they feel a candidate has done well enough to receive a grade at the AS Level but not the A Level they will issue an AS Qualification. Every year about 20% of the applicants dont do well enough in their A2 papers and are awarded an AS grade instead. In your case you would be marked as Absent from the A2 and would directly receive an AS certificate.(Original post by bbestbilal)

Have a look at this pdf attachment. Check the column under candidates Receiving AS ( A - E Grades )
Be carefull though that if you attempt even a single A2 and dont attempt the others, they can qualify you for any AL grade ( A* - E ). Mail CIE if you have any more doubts or ask your centre to get in touch with their support.Last edited by Azland; 15-04-2012 at 00:47.
