    Showering when on your Period
So i was talking to a friend of mine over the phone, and she was telling me how she just got her period so she's feeling all crap (especially cos its exam time now). I told her she should go for a nice long hot shower (cos that always works for me) and makes me feel more relaxed, and to my surprise she was like 'WHAT!?? i cant have a shower now! im on my period!!!'...i was like 'Er..what do you mean?, i know you're on your period but just take a shower, it doesnt matter if youre on your period'., and then there was a pause and i asked 'dont you shower when you're on your period', and she was all defense and saying 'Of course NOT! you're not supposed to! ew, what the hell, no one does that..omg!! you're so weird!'.

so i mean i could be wrong, but i SHOWER EVER DAY, regardless with or without period, this is the first time i heard of a girl who doesnt (when shes on), and i find that pretty gross. thing is, she is a muslim, and she told me none of the girls in her family shower on their period, so is this a muslim thing?? O_O

    so ladies be honest:

do you shower when on your period?

Yes! I cannot see how someone cannot shower when on their period! I, like you, shower everyday!

Of course...if anything, you should shower MORE often. I can't even imagine how gross it would feel not to shower for a whole week (more or less ) , especially during that time of month

I do now because my periods improved a lot.

When they were really bad though I could NOT shower. I felt too bad to get out of bed.

It sounds like that wasn't her reason though.

It's not a Muslim thing..I'm a Muslim and I shower all the time when I'm on my period. I don't get how having your period affects showering? :L

Yes the only difference is as soon as I step out the shower I have just about a 2 minute window to dry myself off and get some clothes on before it er... you know, starts again. :awesome:

I converted to Islam when I married and I was also told this, it totally grossed me out  and I still continue to shower everyday despite being on or off, however the reason behind this is that it is believed that showering brings discomfort to the woman when she is on her period therefore she should wait until she has finished completely finished and have a full shower and purify herself (this is known as Khusal). In my opinion it is more hygienic to have one everyday and especially more so when on a period but I guess it's each to their own

iv noticed that some of my muslim friends seem to smell of fresh pure blood, like an overwhelming smell when they are on their period; they are also not meant to cook when on cos they are "unclean"

    Mixing culture with religion!
