How can I self-teach gcses?
Discussion for GCSE students, including those studying for IGCSEs and O Levels.

Re: How can I self-teach gcses?
Depends. Are they subjects you enjoy? If so you should easily be able to teach yourself.
For example, I have a rubbish Science teacher, and so just teach most of it myself, which is doable.
My Maths teacher skips some content on the Specification, and I find teaching parts of it (mainly A*) really easy.
However, English Language and English Literature...
You will need good revision books or maybe even text books to teach yourself though, and time and practise. -
Re: How can I self-teach gcses?Try and ask your teachers at school - they might be able to help you..i.e. extra classes after school, then you can go home and teach yourself more.(Original post by Babyygirl97)
I am 15 and really want to do extra gcses, So I was wondering how can I self teach and just take the exam as an external candidate?
But if you really think that you can do it, you should ask your school to put you in for the exams quite earlier on so that they know how to make sure that you will do well in the exams etc.. -
Re: How can I self-teach gcses?
At GCSE there really is no point..
Not trying to be negative, but focus on the ones your doing at getting As and A*s, no place of further education in the country will really look at your 'extra' GCSEs when you start doing you're A-levels/next stage is when **** gets serius!
To teach yourself GCSEs seems to be, at best, a waste of money

Re: How can I self-teach gcses?Whats the point of doing extra GCSE's when pretty much to get into college you only need 5A*-C's. I'm not putting you down but I'm just making you think. If you do want to have extra gcse's then I suggest that you read the textbooks, do all the questions, do all the test papers, and try watch some videos related to what you are learning on youtube or something.(Original post by Babyygirl97)

Re: How can I self-teach gcses?very few places offer these as gcses so nowhere expects you to have them... (ignoring history there)(Original post by Babyygirl97)
Thanks for all the responses and the reason it is so important is that I want to be a lawyer or politician, so therefore I need history, business studies and law, all subjects I did not take as I did not have the opportunity to
you can easily just take them on at A level... no previous experience needed... i would also suggest you look into what is really needed... obviously for law law A level... but history or business studies... my friend didnt do either and has been very successful...

Re: How can I self-teach gcses? You do not need history, law, or business studies at gcse or at A level to get into law or politics at uni. Case closed(Original post by Babyygirl97)

Re: How can I self-teach gcses? For Law or Politics there are no specific GCSE Requirements. They will probably ask for passes in core subjects - B's in Maths, Science(s), and English.(Original post by Babyygirl97)

There aren't even specific A-Level requirements for Law; I think you doing extra GCSE's and trying to self-teach them is completely pointless, espicially and GCSE Level. If I was something critical like GCSE Maths, then I would understand but there is no reason to push yourself to get an extra GCSE that employers/universities won't care about. -
Re: How can I self-teach gcses?
Wow you guys make me feel bad for self-teaching myself Astronomy T.T but I'm doing it for the pleasure tbh (well Controlled Assessment isn't but heyy). Th coursework is odd as well D:
Since I'd love to do AS Latin I have to squeeze in a Latin GCSE and AS lvl in years 12 and 13 so there is a point in teaching yourself a GCSE just depending on the context. (Since it is imperative for you to have a GCSE in Latin before even thinking about doing it for AS :P
But as in the topic starter's case don't need to worry at all!
