I love rap / hip hop - from eminem down to the old stuff. My friends hate it! But at the end of the day, it's all down to personal taste, I mean I hate a lot of their poppy music!
woah who can sneer at eminem

I have been told that I have a 'scary taste in music' because I listen to bands like Duran Duran and Depeche Mode

Well I seem to love a bit of everything because I was never really exposed to music/had the opportunity to 'listen' to it until I got to secondary school, and all my friends have completely different tastes so I just let them tell me their favourite bands and found that I didn't really prefer any the most or something.

However, I have heard songs that I don't like. D:

But otherwise, WOO, for people don't generally have the chance to sneer at me, and anyone who generally sneers either does it to annoy me or is a bit silly. Music is subjective. Sure, you can have your own opinion, just don't shove it down other people's throats. I never try to make other people agree with me on which song is better etc. because to be fair, it doesn't matter whatever anyone thinks.

I've once had a girl try and tell me that Black Sabbath were terrible and that I should listen to some Black Veil Brides
    My reaction:

Any music which has screaming in it *Which I love* - usually BMTH, or anything Classical.
But I kinda ignore it because I hate most of their stuff :L

I like to listen to a lot of international music and as such have a lot of Iranian music and Hebrew Music on my Ipod my favourite band being one that does a lot of Acid Jazz type stuff... my friends are always like 'Don't you listen to anything decent?'

I sneer at dubstep I will admit but it does sound like the old dial up connection.

My friend makes fun of me for listening to classical music. I went to see the RSNO play Handels Water Music in January and I got mocked.... a lot. She just doesn't get it.

I'm often excoriated by my peers for listening to artists like Ryoji Ikeda and Alva Noto. I think that one of the reasons for this is the erratic soundscapes containing frequencies on the edge of human hearing. I'm regularly told that I am listening to a malfunctioning fax machine.

Black metal. I live with people who predominantly listen to metal, but they mostly like melodic death and they don't 'get' black metal. To them it just sounds like static and they don't understand the concept behind deliberate poor recording quality (despite me trying to explain many times).

Similar thing applies to what little drone and ambient music I listen to - they don't 'get' it.

I once offered to dj a school dance for free and people said no.

In the party, I could only recognise three songs in the entire party. Every song was a lame house remix of some sort. Worse, every song had the same beat and it was like the same song was played over and over.

I always thought "I have better taste in music than the DJ!" My taste in dance music is older than my classmates and I guess that's why.

My music taste ranges from Alphabeat to Ben Howard to Biffy Clyro to Crystal Castles, Death Cab for Cutie, Howler, Metronomy, Snow Patrol, Twin Atlantic, the list goes on. Point being, it's pretty varied and rather unpredictable: I could be listening to The White Stripes or You Me at Six at any given time, and as far as I'm concerned, it is no one else's business and I don't really care about anyones response

Re: What music do your friends sneer at?
With a large chunk of my friends, it's anything that's not rock. Any artist that's even remotely recognisable is hated by them. I got laughed at for listening to Florence + the Machine despite the fact that none of them had heart a single Florence song. They do the same with artists they've never even heard of, like Clare Maguire. Sometimes, they take it too far though. One time, one of them saw I was listening to Jessie J, went through my iPod and roared at me in public for the music I listen to. Made me feel like absolute crap.

Then I have friends who claim they're "open about their music taste" yet they'll also treat me like crap if I like certain artists. Okay, yes, I like Ellie Goulding. That isn't an excuse to make me feel like I shouldn't like her music. I have a pretty diverse music taste so I have a few friends ask me to bring my iPod to parties, and they'll end up liking some new artists (I got someone at a party into Kerli because I Want Nothing started playing). However, I stopped doing that pretty quickly because I'd have people screaming in my face about how crap my music is.

I'm not saying they have to respect my music taste, or learn more about some of the artists I like. I just don't think they should go to the lengths they do.

I'm too damn sensitive to these things...

Thanks. Sorry for the slow reply - got caught up in work!
I have decent enough speakers, though I can usually tell when they're not quite doing the job. If that is the case I have earphones which can cope with pretty much anything.

Though the fact I can hear the very high frequencies at all through my speakers is suggesting that they're good enough. Tried it with my earphones just to see how it compares and it's a more intimate experience...definitely starting to think my earphones are better, despite only being about £25 compared to my £80 speakers.

It's certainly an interesting style of music. Not sure if it's something I could listen to for an extended period of time though. The way the high pitch noises and strong bass alternate from left to right panning is pretty disorientating. But there's some very interesting sounds here, I'll give it that.
