what PHD can you do with mechanical engineering
Say If I graduated with a 2.1 in Mechanical engineering Meng or Beng, what PHD programmes could I apply to, I know about the EngD but are there traditional PHD's available in Physics and Mathematics in particular? that an engineering graduate could apply for.

EngD is just a more practical version of PhD. You can do either.

Is an EngD not a engineering doctorate that you can only get researching in industry, or is that something else i'm thinking of?

You are absolutely right. During and EngD, you will essentially be bound to a particular company and do research specifically for them. Hence, why I said it is a more practical version of PhD.

The EngDs I have seen have stipends of around £20k, while for PhDs I have seen figures around £11k, just thought you should know

You can get PhD's in : Other Engineering Disciplines, OR, Applied Maths, Financial Maths, Complexity Science etc

You can't go into : Pure Maths, Pure Physics.
