your mark on isa will likely be 48-50 ums
your mark on unit 1 will likely be 120ums
to achieve 90% overall you need 270 ums
therefore unit 2 mark must be atleast 100 ums
100 ums is likely to be about 55/70 marks
    I got 41/50 overall on my ISA, what UMS do you think that would be? and what grade? pleeeeeeease say A :}

    Around the A boundary; either a very low A or a very high B (48 + 1 or 2 ums)

for the phase difference question would it be correct to have wrote a fraction of lambda instead of degrees

    i.e. 3/8λ instead of 135 degrees

    Hiya,

I got 120 in Unit one Jan, and 45/50 UMS in the ISA... what UMS do you all reckon the ISA is, and what will I need to get on this paper for a 90 percent average in Physics?

    Thanks x

That's fine. But the debate that people were having earlier was whether or not you'll get a mark for just leaving a numerical answer. I wrote 135degrees and 315degrees but didn't specify that it was 135degrees 'out of phase'.

Similarly those that just wrote 'out of phase' definitely won't get the mark. Antiphase might be enough though.

On further thought, and looking through previous papers etc, i'm not sure whether just a numerical answer is enough. Perhaps if the marker was feeling generous then maybe I'll get away with it :-)

Okay thanks, seriously hope its a low A though because I only got 96ums on unit 1, a lot of pressure on this unit 2 mark now !

45 is 54 ums (according to june 11 grade boundaries)

270-54-120=96Ums needed for 90% which is an A, prob 54 raw marks

Check the ums converter on aqa website...

    http://web.aqa.org.uk/UMS/index.php

    90% ums is 270

The ISA is worth 60 ums and i'd suggest that 45 raw marks is close enough to that.

So, if you've got, say, 170-180 ums already, then you only need about 100 on this paper. And i reckon, because the paper was relatively easy in comparison to all of the previous ones, maybe 56-60 raw marks for 100 ums??

for 1c) i wrote the hypotenuse force (which was C i think) is the resultant of the other 2 forces and A^2+B^2= C^2 so pythagoras applies and there is no other forces so it has no acceleration.

how many marks would i get for that, out of 3?

    please help

Yes that make sense thank you... Like want I did in mechanic. Do u think 51 is enough for 89 ums? As I need 89 for an A...

That's ok, err yeah it should be if the grade boundaries are similar to the recent ones but it's hard to call as grade boundaries change a lot

you would still need virtually the same mark on unit 2 regardless so I wouldnt worry about your ISA mark

most likely a high B (46/60 ums) last year it was 42 for an a on the isa

man... thats what i put but it is wrong.
i hope they give us like 1 mark for realising what phase difference is.

Probably anything between 105 and 112 and thereabouts.

    lol, what?

HAving gone through the paper again, i know i've made 10 marks worth of mistakes minimum. But i suspect it may be closer to 14-17 marks due to slip ups i'm not seeing.

Do you lot think 53 will be enough for a low A which along with a modest estimate of 25UMS in my ISA, should easily give me a B
have you got a copy of the questions, then? if so please post them here.

Anyone posted the mark scheme yet?
I've got my hands on a test paper tho so i know roughly where i went right or wrong.
could you scan it in or just retype the questions here? i think that would help a lot of people, including me, to jog their memories as to what they put.
