Re: Why have kids changed so much since the 90's?Yeah but in the 90s it was all about Street Fighter and then Golden Eye.(Original post by Mr Bee)
I am 14 and like many others I enjoy hanging out with friends and playing Xbox :| But I also enjoy spending time with family and shopping with them too. I was watching the Grand National yesterday and it showed kids together my age, maybe older sat with friends watching it. This would never happen these days. I highly doubt many adults have walked in on their kid with a friend watching the Grand National for example. These days it is all about Call of Duty. Why do you think this is?
Though we did go out and play too. -
Re: Why have kids changed so much since the 90's?That's like me listening to Frank Sinatra and saying "The 50's were amazing, I miss those times". I can't have experienced the 50's because I was born in 1993. Yes, you might enjoy stuff from that time period, and yes, you might have heard a lot of stuff about that time period, but you haven't experienced it yourself. And you certainly can't base it off old films and TV.(Original post by Mr Bee)
How do I know? I join the many other people on the planet and have watched old films and TV programs.
And to answer your question, kids have changed so much since the 90's because they've grown up and been subjected to new things. You can't expect kids to stay pretty much the same really. I was a 90's kid (unless you argue that a 90's kid must have been born around 1992, and I've actually seen this argument), and the things I've grown up with are different than what my young cousins (specifically the ones born between 1998 and 2005) have grown up with. I have a young cousin who's about 5 and she's grown up around stuff such as Facebook and iPhones and she's embraced that technology. She's still a kid who enjoys stuff like playing around outside and playing games like hide and seek with her friends, but because she's grown up with different experiences she's going to grow up and act differently than if she'd have been born in 1993.
I've probably gone off on a tangent, especially since you were talking about the Grand National, but...yeah. -
Re: Why have kids changed so much since the 90's?
I don't get it. It's probably me not being able to read, but you saw kids your age (14) watching the Grand National but kids nowadays wouldn't watch the Grand National ....

Big love for the Cam'Ron reference(Original post by Bill_Gates)

Best PS1 game ever!

Re: Why have kids changed so much since the 90's?I remember the dial up tone! When my dad got a computer it was like magic, we'd never seen anything like it.(Original post by Taelia)
OP, you're 14! You don't know anything about the 90's so go on and play with your xbox, high-speed internet and Blu-Ray discs. You will never understand the sound of the internet dial-up tone!
Kids have changed so much since "my 90's" because they are used to convenience products and they have no respect. Kids that are in Year 10 now are the forerunners of this -.-
Also, does any remember how small TVs used to be? Our old one when when I was growing up was a tiny little box, much smaller than my laptop, and there were only 3 channels that weren't really fuzzy if you were lucky
I'm one of the late 90s ('94) but my family were pretty slow at getting into technology, and I was lucky enough to live in the countryside so spent all my time outside with friends. Sometimes in town I'll see girls that can't be much older than 10 walking around with a face full of make-up with bags and mobiles. I never really see kids playing any more, it's pretty sad.
But, never in my childhood did I watch the Grand National, so I don't really get what you're on about OP. -

Re: Why have kids changed so much since the 90's?I am not complaining. I loved Power Rangers... Until they started making loads of new ones, I got bored after Time Force.(Original post by Gwalchgwyn)
You were born in 1998 - you don't have a clue what the 90s were like. The 90s were probably the most boring and dull decade ever since ever in the history of ever. The best bands we had were Hanson, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and The Spice Girls -.- We sat through endless Robbie Williams cassette tapes and had only Power Rangers and He-Man reruns to dull the boredom.
We did however have Goldeneye on the N64 so it kind of balanced it all out -
Re: Why have kids changed so much since the 90's?
I'm a child of the 90s and I remember TV being much more of a social thing. I clearly remember sitting around with family watching The Generation Game, The Brian Connelly Show and Catchphrase and it being a really important family thing. I also remember when my best friend got Sky and her being one of the only people in the neighbourhood to have it, because her parents were loaded, and going round there to watch MTV (when there was actually music on it!) and make up dance routines. Hehe. Have no recollection of watching the Grand National though. My Dad probably watched it, but we didn't go out of our way or anything.

The boy bands sucked, but the girl bands + Sabrina the teenage
witch + Jesse from Pokemon (always go for the evil one) kick started my sexuality years before it was due. Mighty morphin' Power Rangers had a guy so badass his skin colour matched his armour.

Re: Why have kids changed so much since the 90's?It's just going to get worse, in a few years the kids won't even have blackberrys or laptops as the ultimate accessory, they'll all have ipads.(Original post by killa78)
Because kids are spoilt these days.
10 year olds have blackberries and iPhones.
Don't appreciate the time they have with family. -

The 80's however, they were awesome. Only 80's could do cheesy music and film and pull it off. IN the 80's kids actually played outside ALL DAY. They did things-- BMX was the rage, water fights, camping, climbing trees (yep, we did that a lot), building go-karts and then crashing them...too many memories to recall.
I wish I was born in the 60's so I could've enjoyed the crazy 70's and got on the property ladder. Those ****ers had the life. The 70's seems the most care free and fun (and I don't mean the drugs!). Now it's all Health and Safety and nanny state laws.Last edited by silent ninja; 15-04-2012 at 20:10. -

That was enjoyable...
Also - helllooooooooo: pogs, pokemon, SM:TV, in line roller skates, walkmen etc etc. Must agree on Goldeneye though, that was ace. -
Re: Why have kids changed so much since the 90's?
When I was younger most kids didn't have phones. I would phone my friends on the house phone, or go and knock on their door. We didn't have internet.. and when we did get it, it was dial up. So we did other stuff with our time. And it was awesome.
I did all this stuff and I wasn't alive in the 80s.(Original post by silent ninja)

Re: Why have kids changed so much since the 90's?I blame the lack of split screen multiplayer in games these days.(Original post by xoxAngel_Kxox)
Technology changes everyone.
When I was 16, I'd go out with my friends ALL the time. My brother and his friends "socialise" via xbox, not even in the same house, and rarely go out to play football or just walk round and have a chat. If they want to chat they text or call, I would knock on a friend's door and ask them to come for a walk.
It's a shame, but things will always move on and change.
Although that one example of how one person is different from one other person doesn't really prove anything. I can't say I know any kids, but are they really that different? Or do they just have better toys to play with?
TV isn't representative of how real people lived.(Original post by Mr Bee)
