Re: what were your flatmates like?
Short answer: both
Long answer: cba going into full detail but....
the good - made some great friends, had some great nights out and even more nights in, made friends for life, got to know a wide range of people and got to know them well
the bad - usually revolved around money, in pretty much every houseshare I've lived in there has been at least one bad egg and sometimes its disheartening that even some of the others that are good in every other way, were always playing a game of 'how can I minimise my contribution to shared costs and make sure part of my share ultimately falls on whoever put their name on the bill' -
Re: what were your flatmates like?
I assume you're talking about halls?
I lived in a flat with 8 other people, 7 girls, 1 guy and me (girl), only one wasn't on some form of nursing course and was a study abroad student from america.
Being on the same course to some degree did help us all to get on, but everyone was pretty lovely really.
I ended up living with 2 of the girls in 2nd year and am still friends with all except the girl from America and one other girl. -

Re: what were your flatmates like?Variable, to some extent. There's some I know I won't bother seeing socially again after this year, just because we haven't really clicked, but I can live with them all and have become good friends with a few.

Re: what were your flatmates like?
First year: Awful.
Noise throughout the day and night.
Loud music all day, evening, night time, early hours of the morning, normal hours of the morning.... No sleep!! Ever!!
Someone was sick outside my room
Someone wee'd outside my room
Fights (Including knifes)
Parties - But not nice parties. There would be all guys. Scary looking ones. With drugs as well as alcohol.
One night the fight was so bad I was so scared to go out of my room (as I was a lot of the time) and in the morning when I woke up the flat was smashed including windows, doors, tables, chairs, kitchen utensils.. you name it. The police were involved on that one.
The guy in the room opposite me didn't live in there on his own. There must have been at least three guys living in there. The rooms were tiny as well!!
If you called security on you then they would threaten you.
Most of the flatmates didn't ever clean or wash up, and there was always dirty looking plates and stuff around the kitchen. It even got so bad that mould started growing on the work tops!!
No one ever took the rubbish out, I think I was the only one who did. Sometimes I would go away for a week and come back to the bin overflowing and days worth of rubbish on the floor.
Second year and third year when I could choose my flatmates it was a lot nicer and I never had any problems!Last edited by StartSomething; 15-04-2012 at 20:05. -

Re: what were your flatmates like? That's irrelevant. It's very much the luck of the draw on who you live with - all universities have nice people, ********s and people who you feel indifferent towards. It's just that StartSomething appears to have drawn the short straw for every one of their flatmates!(Original post by ugk4life)

Re: what were your flatmates like?yeah I suppose but by the same token I would not expect to hear that from a uni such as Oxford or imperial.(Original post by Origami Bullets)

but I do agree with you on the whole. -
Re: what were your flatmates like?
I've had about... 16 different flatmates over the years, 8 who I had great friendships with, 6 who were alright but didn't really get to know, and 3 that I've had massive issues with (however, one is also in the 'great friendship' category, we had a rough patch
). The 'massive issues' were generally personality clashes with people I otherwise respected but was also annoyed by, and one person who's ridiculous about bills.
First year was definitely the best, our flat was like a little family

Re: what were your flatmates like?Just because a uni is good and high on league tables, doesn't mean that you still wont meet people who are absolute dicks! It is very much the luck of the draw. Don't put those unis on such a pedistal!(Original post by ugk4life)
yeah I suppose but by the same token I would not expect to hear that from a uni such as Oxford or imperial.

I had 12 lovely housemates who I'm still very good friends with even though we split into 4 different houses and then had 3 who were absolute bitches. Thankfully they didnt affect me much but upset a lot of my housemates. -
Re: what were your flatmates like?
Terrible, Every one was on their own. No one spoke to each other, No one ever chilled in the kitchen, Just cook they food and bounced. Awful experience with my room mates, Luckily I made some good friends but they halls were the other side on campus. I'm glad the term is over.
