How to dye dark blonde hair blonder?
So, I have naturally dark blonde hair (a bit like Keira Knightley's in Pirates of the carribean :P), and I would love it to be more of a bright golden blonde, but I don't really know how to do it. I have tried sun in type things before and they usually turn my hair a nice golden blonde after a couple of uses, and it looks nice at the beginning but then seems to go to a brassy yellow blonde type colour as it grows out.

I have been thinking of using a home dye, but have heard some terrible stories of people using them and going ginger etc. I only want to go a shade or two lighter than natural, is there a risk of going ginger? I feel quite boring and washed out with my colour at the moment, especially as I'm also really pale, but I can't really afford to go to the hairdressers to get it done regularly to do the roots every month etc.

I was just wondering if anyone could give me any tips? Thanks

    Hey,
i know the hairdressers is so expensive right!

my hair is naturally dark blonde and i dye it platinum blonde clolour, some home dyes give it a gingery/brassy unatural colour, depends on which one you choose, such as live xxl stuff, that dye is terrible! -for me anyway
    however
i tried belle colour, by garnier, only costs around 3.99 and the colour is so natural, also if you go for ash blonde type shade's in home dyes they dont go gingery
    also
another tip, purple/silver shampoo works a treat on hiding gingery, brassy tones,

it depends on how dark blonde your hair is, if you look at the back of the box of hair dyes it usually has a chart and shows you colours of your hair you can compare yours too and then will show you colours which the result will be,

i use that sun in stuff sometimes and yeah it fades on me too but the silver shampoo helps keep it bright
ive had my roots and hair colour done in the salon a few times then i always end up wishing i hadnt because i get the same results from my 3.99 belle colour!

why not buy a home hair dye and try it on a little bit of your hair on the bottom layer and if you like it then buy another box and do the rest of your hair, its recomended that you do a skin test with the dye anyway before you use it properly so buying 1 box (its cheap enough anyway) just to test your skin and a tiny bit of hair on the bottom layer would be a good idea
then you get to see what the colour can look like without all your going wrong and a horrible colour

    goodluck x

    Hey there.
Recently I have been highlighting my hair with Wella Highlighting Kit. It's about £6 but is literally the best at making hair lighter. I think it looks so much more natural too, instead of being brassy. But if it was to go brassy I'd buy a purple shampoo and conditioner and use these at least twice a week. The Wella highlighting kit packaging does look rather mid-70's but honestly it works wonders! My hair wasn't dry after it either. I would certainly give this a try if I were you or do a strand test to see how light it goes x

Thanks guys! I bought some l'oreal sublime colour foam in 800 (pure blonde) but it did absolutely nothing to my hair when I strand tested it! I will check out the wella highlighting kit and the Garnier colours (which seem to have good reviews). I'm still not sure which is more damaging to hair, colouring it all over or highlighting it?

I think highlighting all over would be the least damaging but I suppose it depends on the condition of your hair to begin with. You could get the highlighting kit and do a strand test to see what colour it would go and to see how damaged it might leave it. X
