Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadAccording to their twitter account they are looking for a new premises now as the railway station fell through. I won't be in Cambridge to enjoy it when it opens though. All the same, the Cambridge Blue will probably be my favourite pub for their range of beers(Original post by py0alb)
Are you excited about the Cambridge Tap opening? -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadThat place is fantastic. For what is generally a bit of a boring city, Cambridge does have some good beer pubs.(Original post by It could be lupus)

Still we could always do with a few more. I can't wait to see what the Cambridge Tap offers us, hopefully it will be in the middle of town, I'll probably visit it more there than if it had been at the station anyway. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat thread
Well I bought a crate of Budweiser today, so having my first can and going to make my way through it tonight. Getting drunk on beer is probably the best drunk, your ready for bed before your at the paralytic stage whereas spirits can take you in an hour. Anyone notice Carlsberg Export and Stella have gone down to 4.8%
shocking news for someone who prefers a stronger beer, before we know it they'll be down to 4.5%! I prefer bitters and ales personally, but much prefer it in a nice pub.

Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadYeah its a cost cutting measure thats being used across the board by the macros to counteract the constantly increasing tax duty. More money now goes to the treasury than the brewery for each pint now.(Original post by Swanbow)

Personally I am not particularly bothered about small differences in %s as long as it tastes good and has some alcohol in it. How much longer does it take you to get tipsy of 4% lager than 5%? 1 extra pint?
I think anywhere between 4.5% and 6% tends to be the most flavourful and best balanced beer. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadErdinger Weissbier?(Original post by Mess.)
I only tried Erdinger recently but I really enjoyed it, gave me a cheery and hazy buzz as well whereas I find the likes of Carling, Fosters and so on make me feel ill and like it is an effort to get through them.
That's quite nice, but there are a lot of weissbiers that are even better IMO.
I find most beer gives me a nice hazy buzz approximately 4/5 pints before I feel ill. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadYeah I heard it'll save millions, but the tax on pints is a bit extortionate. I think they should relax it for the microbreweries hopefully giving a small boost to the economy and making nice beers a bit cheaper in the pub.(Original post by py0alb)

You'd think it a small difference, and it is, but in my experience having 4 pints of Carling compared to Stella can make be the difference from barely tipsy to almost there, I just don't like anything under 4% such as carlsberg which tastes like water. I just think that if they reduce the percentages some lagers, and it makes a profit/no one notices, it could lead to a general reduction of alcohol percentage.
I know what you mean, it's horrible drinking strong brewed beers over 7% would rather have wine haha! Not sure if you have tried the Polish beer Tyskie, but that's really nice and 5.6%. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadA lot of good beers are 5.6%. Brewdog Punk, Worthington White Shield, Sierra Nevada...(Original post by Swanbow)

I tried an Asahi Black last night. I'm not a big fan of Asahi but this was really good. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadNot much a fan of Asian beers so much but going have to give Asahi black a try now you mentioned it(Original post by py0alb)

Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadThey quite often have that on offer at co-op. Its not the worst option I agree, although its a little floral for my taste.(Original post by Rainy)

Chilled bottle - pleasantly surprised! It's no world beater but it's delicious as a casual, inexpensive sessionable beer. Buttery twist on a pale ale that might well suit bottle over cask.
Any new finds, chaps (and chapettes)? -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadI had a 2nd sample last night and I wasn't mistaken. It is a pleasant surprise for a non-European beer - it claims to be rich and smooth and it isn't lying. Its got a characteristic roasted malt flavour, yet still manages to be very light and drinkable and maintain a good balance between sweetness and bitterness, which I find a lot of dark beers get slightly wrong.(Original post by Swanbow)

In general I prefer milds and dark lagers to stouts and porters. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat thread
Not sure if anyone will be able to help but... after a long day at work I had a craving something sweet and in particular a Desperados, but in my local Tesco they only seemed to have 'Amigos'.
I turned it down and went for something else, but expect i'll try it at some point (just wasn't sure I wanted a pack of 4).
Anyone know how it compares?
If anyone's interested I got some Brother's cider, of which the toffee apple hit the spot and chilled me right out
But less talk of cider in the beer thread... I had a 'The Laines' the other day from a local Brighton pub. Very nice and moreish.

Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadNo... I have seen that in Tescos, but as I don't particularly like Desperado's I haven't bothered trying it. It seems to get good reviews though, perhaps you should give it a go and let us know.(Original post by CJ)

Re: Beer Lovers Chat thread
I fully dislike Desperados, it's so sickly sweet, completely undrinkable for me, don't get the love for it at all, everyone seems to think it's a genuine Mexican thing but it's really not. I just don't know I guess.
The other day I had a bottle of Alhambra Mezquita and a bottle of Goose Island IPA, both were very nice, the former was Spanish and 7.2% if you care about the %, which I personally don't, I care about the taste, it was bordering on the level of strength though where a beer begins to taste more like a good port, very nice but can't drink many of them at once. As for the IPA, very refreshing, second best IPA I've ever tried, the best being St Peters -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadSame here, just don't get this French beer masquerading as Mexican. Why would you want tequila flavouring in your beer anyway?(Original post by robo donkey)

Re: Beer Lovers Chat thread
Latest few tries:
St Feuillien - Saison. First ever saison, odd, I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. Must try another saison.
Sleeman - Honey Brown Lager. £2.20 a half, American Dark Lager so another new style. Nice beer, very drinkable.
Both in Cask in Manchester.
Lindemans - Framboise, Perchasse, Chassis - 3 of 9 beers tried in the Steamhouse in Urmston. A good intro to the Lambic style, Lambic - Fruit and all very tasty, low percentage beers. 2.5/3.5%, great session tries.
