Re: Beer Lovers Chat thread
I bought a bottle of Kwak on Saturday. Not cheap at £2.80 for a 330ml bottle, but it was very, very good. Very smooth. I should have made some better notes, because all I can remember now was that it was nice and dangerously drinkable considering it was 8.4%. God damn it.

Re: Beer Lovers Chat thread
Yeah, it wasn't bad compared to some of the other belgian beers in the shop. Hence why I bought it!
Just had two phillippean beers. One called red horse, the other a pilsner. Both were very, very dry, could almost have been mistaken for a dry cider or a dry white wine. No malt, minimal hops. They weren't bad mind.
Also had an amber and a black lager from a small Suffolk brewery called Calvors. The Amber I wasn't mad about, but the black was beautiful, really chocolatey without being too overwhelmingly thick and bitter.
I've also been researching pairing beer and cheese. Some awesome ideas. Might host a beer and cheese evening, that would be awesome. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadI've not had much Chester ale (despite living near the city almost all my life I rarely drink there) but it's not too bad in my limited experience. Not fantastic, but good for the price I paid (sub £3/pint from pub within the city walls)(Original post by El Nombre)
Aye, it's not bad considering one of my local cafes charges £4 for a bottle of Kwak!
Had a Corvus ale (by Chester ales) on Saturday. I thought it'd be quite heavy, but it was refreshingly smooth and nutty. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadLast time I was in Bruges I sat down and drank 2 pints of the stuff at lunchtime not realising what strength it was. It doesn't taste anywhere near 8.4%.(Original post by py0alb)

Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadHehe. Belgian brews tend to be outrageously alcoholic; currently in my collection is the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel which is only 11%... The Triple is only 9% or so.(Original post by walterwhite123)

Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadWhat did you think? Some I love, some I wasn't bowled over by.(Original post by ChapelTom)
Recently went to BrewDog's new bar in Manchester and tried a load of their beers. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat threadHaven't tried that one. I absolutely love Punk, 5am Saint and Zeitgeist. Trashy Blonde is good, Hardcore is ok and Dogma I struggled through a little.(Original post by ChapelTom)
Loved my visit. Shame about how expensive it was. I had BrewDog Growler in the Sheffield Tap for £2.10 a half a few days before, an incredible lager. Its a good place to drink, but only if you know what decent beer is.
Its quite exciting some of the really good innovative beers coming out. I treid a Thornbridge Versa Weiss the other day at the Euston Tap. It was exceptionally good.
Hopefully one day we will have a choice of a quality British keg IPA, a wheatbeer, a pilsner, and a black lager in every pub (along with a bitter, a mild and a golden ale on cask of course).
I have a dream... of never having to put up with a choice of Stella, Carlsberg, Fosters and slightly stale Green King IPA again. -
Re: Beer Lovers Chat thread
Was drinking Efes a lot last week in Turkey. Seemed to be the beer of choice

Pretty nice when cold. If it started to warm up it was much less drinkable, but I didn't usually let it. Nice and refreshing on hot days outside.
Will also be at the Cambridge festival this time next week
