Re: How good is the University of York?thanks.(Original post by *Interrobang*)
you live in them for your first year. After that, you can be involved as much as you like with your college - be involved in the JCR committee, do college sports, go to college events (that are open to everyone), or do nothing related to your college.
Is york expensive to live in? -
Re: How good is the University of York?My 1st choice :P(Original post by AverageExcellence)
I was thinking Derwent or Vanbrugh catered because it works out the best value for money and im doing history/politics so both are at the respective departments. I think theres better stuff at the Vanbrugh campus though. A lot of people keep ranting about James.
Was York your first choice or was it like a fallback? -

If we ever meet on campus, I owe you a high five. Because you are a legend.
Choose the uni you love and love the uni you choose.

Any love for History at York?
Starting October, thinking Derwent because it's cheap and looks fun. -
Re: How good is the University of York?Mm money might be an issue for me as well, so I'll take a look at Derwent(Original post by Historophilia)

Re: How good is the University of York?Btw where are you getting cheap from? The 39 week rent prices for standard catered are the same for Derwent and Vanbrugh(Original post by Historophilia)

Re: How good is the University of York?have you got any experience?(Original post by marosh)
How is it with part time jobs in York? Is it hard to find something?, thanks -
Re: How good is the University of York?no experience from York. In general I worked in a few warehouses, factories and did other unqualified jobs.(Original post by bestofyou)
have you got any experience?
I have degree from business informatics (ba) and computing studies (BSc), but i am not thinking about qualified jobs, cuz I think I will have full head of study stuff...
Preferably I would choose something in coffee during evenings or weekends... -
Re: How good is the University of York?there's always bar jobs going in York - it's got one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country especially if you stay around for the summer places are always hiring. There's always a bit of a rush in Fresher's to get jobs but if you have experience and consistency you shouldn't find a problem. Also the university always have tons of 'campus ambassador' jobs going and I made a lot of money volunteering for every paid psychology experiment under the sun(Original post by marosh)

Re: How good is the University of York?
They've recently been invited into the Russell group, and being that it is only around 50 years old that is quite an impressive achievement, and must say something about the quality of the university. I was in a major toss up between York and UCL and sometimes wish I chose it... But then again everywhere has their pros and cons.

Not only has it just been accepted to the Russell Group, but it's close to competing with some older, more prestigious universities, like Durham. It's the best in the country for its age, and even then, for certain subjects, is ranked among some of the universities that are higher up in league tables.

I was meaning more watching the team. York City FC are great, nice little ground too. They have a good centre of excellence too but i'm not sure what the age cut off is.
