Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadThere is, but there is no United Nations Court of Human Rights which is the biggest difference between that and the European Convention.(Original post by Morgsie)
There is also the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. -
Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadAs I've said, I'm not second guessing what will be reported back.(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)
But that is why judges are independent of idiots who get elected - it's for them to decide what is and isn't tenable in a court of law. -
Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadThe ECHR is deeply flawed e.g. the massive backlog of cases. In this country the ECHR is not required to protect human rights, we can do that through our own law and courts.(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)
But why exactly do you want to remove a convention that is well respected around the world and was one of the pioneering models of enshrining human rights? Is it simply because it has the word "European" at the front of it? Would you prefer "imperialist pig-dog" convention? I would assume that you might notice the clear irony in such a thing. -
Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadWell fine, let's wait for this person who has never posted here before to say something. That'll be a big surprise. Like discovering Canadian and American thanksgiving aren't the same or that Europeans celebrate workers on Labour Day in May whereas North Americans celebrate capital on Labor Day in September. I presume you actually have an opinion, though?(Original post by toronto353)

Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadIf there's a backlog, perhaps they need more staff. Otherwise when you can be bothered to come up with an answer which isn't clouded in imperialist ****e, I'll be happy to read it. Until then you may wish to ponder why British statesmen and British judges - who largely wrote the ECHR - believed it fundamentally necessary in the 1940s and the arrogance of presuming you know better than they.(Original post by ukip72)

Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadThey seem keen and frankly we need to encourage people to join in. I have an opinion on the matter.(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)

Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadI am discussing options with the SG and will get back to you shortly. We need to reform the procedure though so I'm thinking that we halt the bid, work out the new procedure then carry on with Switzerland's bid.(Original post by Morgsie)
I have sent you a PM regarding the position of Switzerland's application in my MUN roles.

Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadWill the RL process be looked upon when reforming the procedures?(Original post by toronto353)

Looking at the RL Process which includes the Copenhagen Criteria as a a guide to go from.Last edited by Morgsie; 18-05-2012 at 01:18. -
Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadIt is not something that we have prioritised, but I believe that the HoC should have a seat on the MUNSC.(Original post by Morgsie)
Does the Foreign Secretary and the Government believe there should be reform of the MUNSC? -
Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadIs it on the Agenda? (I know that it is a low priority)(Original post by toronto353)
It is not something that we have prioritised, but I believe that the HoC should have a seat on the MUNSC.
I have suggested 6 NP members for 1 year terms. 3 are elected by the GA in one month and 6 months later the other 3 are elected. -
Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadReviewing my initial report, this Government has already achieved the formation of the EU Bloc, the beginnings of the repatriation of powers and the establishment of this thread and so our current agenda consists of:(Original post by Morgsie)
Is it on the Agenda? (I know that it is a low priority)

- Repatriation of powers from the EU (All term)
- Treaty for Commonwealth trading zone (the Bloc may not be needed since I'm going to tweak the Charter to allow a meeting every six months of the Commonwealth states) (June/ July)
We can therefore look at other issues within the sphere of Foreign Affairs and indeed I am going to produce a second report in the future. It is therefore on the agenda, but not on the top of the agenda.
It's an idea that I'm willing to look at, but my initial priority is to get the MHoC on that Security Council. -
Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadI understand, thanks anyway.(Original post by toronto353)

What happens to the current UK Rep if you are successful in getting MHOC a place on the MUNSC? -
Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadThey should stay on the MUNSC because they represent the RL UK Government, we don't. I am always happy to consider any suggestions that any member may have. Just because a policy is not on my list doesn't mean that we can't work on trying to enact it.(Original post by Morgsie)
I understand, thanks anyway.

Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadThat would be an awful amount of elections wouldn't it?(Original post by Morgsie)

Re: Ask the Foreign Secretary/ MUN - MHoC relations threadI like the idea of a greater rotation of SC positions. We've got some fantastic permanent reps but it would be nice if the positions had some form of term limit so more people could get a chance to participate in the SC.
