Model House of Lords Establishment Committee
As many of you may be aware already, the government has deemed it appropriate to establish a committee to look into the creating a Model House of Lords (MHoL), to be fronted by me.

It has been decided by the government that the best way to go about this committee is to invite two MP's from every party to sit on the committee, with these MP's being split up into five groups of two, each of which is to research into a different topic, as well as have the ability to interview whoever they wish. At the end of their allotted time, they are to present a report to the rest of the committee to debate.
In addition, myself and a deputy to be appointed at a later date will help these MP's, as well as serve as permanent members of the interview board.
All party leaders and Metrobeans have been informed of the decision, and I am currently waiting for a list of all MP's to serve on the committee.

    This is the following timetable:

    Select Committee Timetable

Week Beginning (NB all reports are presented to the Committee and are only included in the final report as addenda)

23rd April - Topic one report start research and writing
    30th April -
7th April - Topic one team to present report + debate
14th May - Topic two team start research and writing
    21st May -
28th May - Topic two team to present report + debate
4th June - Topic three team start research and writing
    11th June -
18th June - Topic three team to present report + debate
25th June - Topic four team to start research and writing
    2nd July -
9th July - Topic four team to present report + debate
16th July - Topic five team to start research and writing
    23rdJuly -
30th July - Topic five team to present report + debate
6th August - Final week of evidence giving via questions
13th August - Chair and Deputy Chair to start writing report
    20th August -
27th August - Chair and Deputy Chair to present report to Committee + debate
3rd September - Chair presents report to House
10th September - Legislation presented to House

Party leaders, I'll require a list of names before or on the 22nd of April.

The Liberal Democrats are still discussing who should take up the second seat on this Committee.

Membership/Composition and Functions/Powers are the 2 big issues

There are hardly enough people to vote in the MHoC. What good will it bring? Do you expect people to be motivated by the peerage?

Although I appreciate that this is still in the initial planning stages, I should advise you that the admins will want to know what the sub-forum will be used for in order to consider whether they will give us one or not. If you could write up a brief summary of what you expect it to be used for by Friday, I can take that to the admins when we meet at the end of the week.

That's a long process, but if it's needed then so be it. It'll be interesting.
I know next to nothing about the House of Lords and how it's structured so it'll be interesting to research that and to see how the TSR version would come together.

I wouldn't mind having a second chamber but my concern is that there simply wouldn't be enough interest or people to fulfil it's role properly.

This will be an extremely interesting discussion however what if the monarchy is removed in the referendum and thus the HoL will be a bit redundant no?

You can have a second chamber without a monarchy.

Yes but we wouldn't have lords anymore would we? so it would have to be something else if you wanted it.
