Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to SheffieldWhat are the employment prospects of students with a postgrad degree from Sheffield? I have applied for Sep 2012 entry(Original post by Smuke)
What do you wish you knew about the Uni/city/course/accommodation before you came to Sheffield?

Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to Sheffield
Don't wear white shoes in Corp
Never go to Embrace on a Saturday
Doing important assignments the night before is near impossible (and yet we still do it)
You'll spend more time in the IC/Bar One than you will in your flat
You will come to hate the weekly fire alarm test as you forget about it every week and **** yourself when it does go off
The people you meet in Freshers Week are unlikely to be long term university friends -
Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to Sheffield
The atmosphere in the old accommodation is fantastic
Everything is on a hill
Absinthe is never a good idea
Single-sex accommodation is more likely if applying to Endcliffe
So, so true...(Original post by Dorito)
You will get lost in Mappin no matter how many times you've been before -
Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to SheffieldA weekly fire alarm??? *gasp* so then how do you know when it's a real one? I can imagine people just ignoring the alarm after a while.(Original post by Dorito)

Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to SheffieldIt goes off after a few seconds whereas the real fire alarm just keeps going.(Original post by musicstudent)

but every week I forgot and it scared me to death! Sometimes I'd even get out of bed and then it would stop and I'd realise it was just the test.

A quad vod in Corp is not what it seems. It will definitely make you sick. If you get smashed, you will not survive a night at corp without being sick in the night/morning. If you do, then contact me and tell me how you did it. I will knight you.

Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to SheffieldI survived corp without being sick once.(Original post by MusoDrumpet)

I did wake up on my coursemates kitchen floor at 7am, shaking uncontrollably though... -
Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to SheffieldSir, you deserve an award. Maybe you were shaking uncontrollably in the shock of what happened the night before? Despite the horrendous state of Corp, I keep going back for more... WHY!?(Original post by Dorito)

*edit* Spelled more wrong. Whoops! -
Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to SheffieldLets face it, you need clothing specifically for Corp(Original post by Dorito)

Never go to embrace - ever.
I spend most of my life dossing in my flat, though Bar One is also a regular
Most my closest friends are from freshers week :/ -
Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to SheffieldDefinitely don't go to embrace in freshers. I think it was 2010 when there was a crush there.(Original post by chrisharbury)

It looks very nice in their photos, but of course it does not look like that on a night out. -
Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to Sheffield
I wish I knew that my 'I work better at home than in the library' was completely fabricated by my own brain and doesn't work.
That Wednesday night Corp becomes standard even during exam time
That I would get horrendously addicted to New Leaf salad bar that even when I was perilously close to my overdraft I'd get a tenner out just for a £2.95 salad
That being opposite the kitchen in a party flat was not as good as first thought
That no one will ever know where Rivelin in Endcliffe will except by the 'ooooh you have your own little pond don't you!' -
Re: Things you wish you knew before you came to SheffieldEmbrace is a club which is full of chavs, locals, foreigners and security that smack you in the face regardless of if youve done anything wrong or not.(Original post by Sanitka)
What is the "embrace"?
