Anybody follow this? I've gotten obsessed with it in the last year, so amazing to watch.

What team do you think will win in the team final?
Who do you want to take the all-around? Wieber? Komova? Mustafina?
Will Beth Tweddle win the bars final? Bearing in mind her upgraded routine didn't score very high when she competed in recently.
Now that there are only 5 spots per team, who do you want to see on the American team, seeing as they have an absolutely massive pool of talent?

I want Murakami Mai to take the all-around, she's not brilliant on bars but has huge difficulty elsewhere. Failing that, Aliya Mustafina/Yao Jinnan/Gabrielle Douglas.

McKayla Maroney for vault final, Tweddle or Jinnan for bars, Komova or Mustafina for beam and Anastasia Grishina for floor.

USA will take team final, followed by Russia.

US team- Wieber, Raisman, Ross, Maroney and Douglas. I don't want to see returning athletes like Sacramone, Liukin, Johnson or Bross take the place of any of these.

Yes, I follow it! Not as much as I used to but I still watch all the competitions. I really hope Russia will win the team final and Aliya Mustafina for the all around. I really don't want another American to win the all around, I can't stand their style, I prefer the artistry of the Russians.
Hopefully Beth will able to win a medal on bars at last, I think she's got a real chance having upgraded her bar routine again, she just needs to clean her form up a bit.

Yes I really like Mustafina, glad she is recovering in time and regaining her difficulty. I don't particularly like Jordyn Wieber or Alexandra Raisman, great power great difficulty, lacking in form- especially Raisman on bars, painful. However Maroney is quite graceful on floor, her vault is perfect and Douglas has brilliant bars. Ross also has nice form. Beth has upgraded her dismount to a double double, as has Komova. Should make for a good bars final. Russia I think are fecked for the gold, they don't have enough Amanars- it will really add up taking the .7 hit for 'only' doing a double yurchenko. Their team is easier to predict- I think it will be Komova, Mustafina, Afansayeva, Grishina and either Dementeyeva or Sidorova. Romania is pretty weak, I think China will take bronze over them.

I appreciate power gymnasts, but the glory days are great, love watching gymnasts like Fan Ye, Luo Li, Silivas, Dobre and Groshkova especially..

Yes same here, Maroney is about the only US gymnast I like at the minute! Her 2 1/2 twisting Yurchenko is definitely the best I've ever seen, maybe second to Monica Rosu. I also enjoy her floor as she is one of the most graceful Americans. For the team I think it will be US, Russia and the bronze will be close between China or Romania, I would say China hands down if they weren't so inconsistent. And yes, this sport is nothing like it used to be. The Soviets back in their day were amazing as were the Romanians - nothing like they are today. Some of my favourites that I love to watch from then are Silivas, Omelianchik, Mukhina, Shaposhnikova, Korbut... Probably about every Soviet and most of the Romanians.

Oh yeah, Mukhina was unbelievable. Love her bars especially. Korbut an absolute joy to watch of course. Nadia was of course a joy also, but the hype around her is a bit sickening when there are so many greats nobody has ever heard of. About the only Soviets I don't really love are Boginskaya and Shushunova, overrated I think. Shushunova had little grace compared to some others and Boginskaya was such a diva when surrounded by loads of others with more difficulty! I don't like Khorkina either!

If Maroney can stick her Amanar than it's far better than Amanar herself or Rosu, and even Cheng Fei as the form and height are just unreal. I will be gutted if she is casualty of the 5 member team, no specialists!

Iordache seems to have improved, she got a total of over 60 in a competition yesterday and apparently performed a double double on floor. Really ups her chances in the all around from what they were, though bars are always going to screw Romanians over and she doesn't have an amanar to compensate.

Very excited for Europeans and for all of the hoops the Americans will have to go through before Trials.

Woo! Glad to see there's a gymnastics thread. I can't wait for Europeans - does anyone know if the BBC will be broadcasting it??
I'm even more excited for the Olympics though. My life would be complete if Mustafina won the AA! I want Tweddle to win bars though.

Yes will be a great battle between iordache, komova and mustafina. Pity Romania doesn't really have any other really strong all arounders, they've gone down so much since 2000. I'm thinking mustafina will be lucky not to get injured again, all interviews with her or alexandrov state how desperate they are to get her amanar back but it was never something she was really confident at doing and didn't have great form on it. Think she would be fine with a dry and up her difficulty elsewhere...nastia won with a 1.5.

Anyway..who else is on your podium? What do you think of the us team?

By the way, is anyone on here a member of the Intlgymnast forum?? I recently tried to register, but when I tried to access the forums after I had registered a message popped up telling me I was banned for no specified reason and that the ban would never be lifted? Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience:confused:?

Nope, not a member. I'm not a member of any, I just use blogs- Spanny Tampson, the examiner, gymnastics coaching, the couch gymnast, the e panel, fulltwist and between the olympics. Spanny's recaps of make it or break it episodes are just brilliant- speaking of which, I'm really annoyed it's been cancelled. Well able to see how craply it portrays elite level gymnastics but a very entertaining show all the same. Damn ABC family!

Worse news is that Japan have announced their Olympic team and Murakami Mai is not on it. Hadn't the best of outings at Nationals a while ago, unsure how the latest one went for her. She's much younger than those who have made the team, so maybe they're saving her for 2016 to make her more consistent. Her difficulty right now is unbelievable though, I hope she hasn't peaked. She won't be alternate either, Natsumi Sasada almost made the team so it will be her. Damn...

Is everyone excited for Euros? BBC will be showing it this Saturday (red button 1400-1430 TF) and Sunday (1245-1630 EF red button). I can't wait. It's kind of my "treat", for getting through this week, seeing as I have 3 exams.

Is that BBC1? I live in Ireland so I have BBC1,2,3 and 4 but no access to bbc iplayer so I hope I can see it and don't have to wait for youtube uploads!

Yes really excited to see how Komova and Mustafina get on, though I doubt they're going to go all out in case they aggravate something before olympics...for example, I doubt either will suddenly produce an amanar. Pity about Tweddle, and I believe Elizabeth Seitz is out too, was looking forward to her bar routine. Also I wonder how Iordache will score. Love the Ukrainian style, such a pity they won't have an Olympic team. I know Livchikova was too late to get the single spot which is such a shame but excited to see her and the rest perform.

I think Russia will take the team, Iordache the all around (due to Mustafina watering down difficulty a bit), Steingruber the vault, Komova bars, Mustafina beam and Iordache or Grishina floor.

Ah, I don't think there's an all around for this year's competition. Just team and EF. I heard that Mustafina won't be vaulting at Euros.

Really? Heard there was, think im too used to worlds and olympics to know. Same for mustafina, heard she wasn't doing beam. But she did all 4 at podium training. Komova didn't do floor. If there's no aa I wonder if iordache can win an ef, maybe floor but her strength really is being a consistent all arounder. Mustys somewhat poor twisting form has gotten worse apparently, could hurt her.

Oh dear....I just really hope that they'll play it safe with Musty until the Olympics.

Oops, meant to say hurt her scores. Though seeing her vault in general is always a bit tense as she often lands with legs locked so hopefully no amanar attempts anytime soon. Also according to a few blogs, junior euros have an aa so id be somewhat surprised if seniors doesn't.

Edit- very interesting qualifications! Mustafina did not do beam, but did do vault. Vault was fine, DTY. But..stopped and came off bars AND had a sit-down on floor, she was devastated. Grishina also sat down on floor, and Sidorova had a big OOB. However Komova and Grishina had brilliant bars apparently. I hope Musty gets it together but that will be such a confidence-killer.

Musty hasn't qualified to any event finals.

    Here is her floor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JyOF...feature=relmfu

As can be seen, she has grown and her twisting form has gotten worse which leaves her open to massive deductions that Iordache and Wieber won't have. I am sure she will be able rectify what went wrong for her here, she also had a huge error and had to jump off bars- but I'm very doubtful that she still has the ability win the AA. I'd be happy to be prooved wrong though and I know there's a while to go before London.

Komova qualified first to bars. Grishina qualifed to 3 and would also have to floor except she made the exact same mistake Musty did on the exact same pass. I'm excited to see her in London. Iordache seems to be on fantastic form, looking forward to her floor especially.

    Think I'll revise predictions though...

Euros, team final Romania, Russia, Italy
EF Chuso vault, Komova bars, Iordache beam, Iordache floor

    Olympics AA- Wieber, Iordache, Jinnan
    TF- USA, Romania, Russia
EF- Komova bars, Maroney Vault, Iordache beam, Grishina floor

Yep but a pretty shaky floor apparently. She will massively outscore iordache and weiber on bars in london if she stays on but it doesn't look like her other events are enough to remain ahead. But we'll see.

Has anyone been following the US competitions (Classics, Nationals)? The first day of the Nationals women's competition is tommorow (qualifying) and the final is on Sunday. I'd be ecstatic if Gabby Douglas could clinch the title - she had a great podium training session and her Amanar from PT was the best I've seen her do it. I think, however, that Wieber will win if Douglas doesn't hit.
