Simply put, do you think prostitutes deserve respect?
Well, it is supposed to be the world's oldest profession and I see no problem with prostitutes who aren't being coerced into sex by a pimp/gang.Unfortunately, many prostitutes are basically slaves who have been sold into the sex trade.They are putting their lives in danger as the only means of survival. Legalizing prostitution may help combat this problem, but I'm not sure.

But how could you respect someone who doesn't respect themselves?
Some may argue, selling your body is not respecting yourself your lessening the value of who you are and it speaks volumes about your character.
Lets take an example, two people in great need for money. The first one, walks into a shop, shoots(kills) the owner and grabs all the cash from the till. The second one however goes into prostitution.
In the end who has a worse reputation? The first person’s mistakes would be forgotten after a while.As the way society has been built, the second one would have a worse reputation terming her a "whore".
Do you think this is right? What are your opinions on this topic?

I do respect them. It's not easy being in an industry that's thousands of years old. There's a recession now you know. Just because they're selling a sexual favour doesn't mean that they don't respect themselves.
If prostitutes have a bad reputation it's due to society and the current attitudes. There's such a double-standard, being a whore is wrong but being a pimp who steals the money from prostitutes is OK? Besides killing someone isn't on par with selling a sexual favour.
However, I also believe that there should be some regulation to protect these workers, they have rights like everybody else and no one has the right to exploit them.
Why should i have respect for someone who obviously doesn't have respect for him/herself?

Not necessarily. Many do it out of choice and because they enjoy it. I mean, who wouldn't enjoy having sex for a living? And getting paid for it.

I don't know which "respect" you mean we should give to girls who go into prostitution, I voted no because if we gave them too much respect what's to prevent them from finding it a decent way to earn money.
How is it not a decent way to make money? Many of them make far more than other people doing more difficult and less enjoyable jobs.

Money is decent I don't doubt it, but would you allow your daughter to get involved in this if there were other ways for her to make money, what about your wife if you get married one day - and finding out she was into prostitution before she met you? Nothing personal.

That's assuming that she works for a pimp. That's assuming she is a drug addict.
In such a general question, we have to say they deserve our respect. If they turn out to be druggies then they lose it. The same way a doctor who takes coke addict loses my respect.
I was pondering this. I've read many threads recently and Chloe xxx was one poster that made me consider the sex industry with this view...
Men give you cash, even if you don't like the look of them, to do any number of things, especially in strip/lap dancing clubs. If you say no, you don't get paid so lots of women front it and just accept, which I find fascinating. There's no way for cash I'd do things for a horrible looking woman who repulses me (as a worst case scenario) so for these prostitutes/lap dancers to 'act' for cash is something I respect a lot in a funny kind of way.

I am able to respect escorts, prostitutes are lower in the sex trade but sure I don't see why not.

It is weird how many seem to think that being a prostitute means you don`t respect yourself. As in if womans body is used for sex it means she does not respect is. Why is that?
Being prostitute really is not an easy task, not in this society where openly sexual woman seem to be bashed, so yes I respect the woman who have the balls to do it.
