Sleeping pattern
My sleeping pattern has been pretty bad for the last 2 years, but 3 weeks ago it became worse. I used to go to bed by 0100 - 0200 in the last 2 years and wake up around 0730 for school... now I go to bed by 0400 - 0600 and I either wake up at 0730 (usually) or end up sleeping until 1600 (like today). I feel so bad and lethargic.
Now, I've told my doctor this many times for when I've visited her, but she doesn't really give any advice or supply me with any medication.
I really need advice on how to fall asleep quickly (and before anyone asks, yes technological items are switched off, lights are off, etc).
Help?

Re: Sleeping patternI usually wake up at 0730, but sometimes I wake up like 1600 (like yesterday) and yes, I go to sixth form. On the weekend, I sleep at 0600 and I randomly wake up at 0900 - 1000.(Original post by moya)
What do you mean you either wake up at 7.30 or 16.00? Do you go to school/sixth form? Are there days when you need to wake up early, and days where you don't have to wake up at a certain time at all?

Stay up through the night and the following day you will be tired enough to go to bed early.

Force yourself to wake up at a normal time - probably no later than nine o' clock in the morning. Exhaustion will eventually make you get to sleep earlier. -

Same problem here. It's just insomnia, possibly due to a botched circadian rhythm on account of your age. People our age have a hormone that pushes our sleeping times later into the night, thereby making us tired. You can look it up.

I am having a low swing though so it's probably just a product of low mood. I'll get exhausted at an inappropriate time, avoid sleep, and then... well look at the time. I ain't tired either. Re: Sleeping patternIt's what I used when I had to get up at 7:30 and couldn't sleep due to sleep exhaustion (human body what is this). Also try turning off the computer a good half hour before you go to bed and doing something mindless or reading a slow-paced book or something. Knitting or sewing or so on are all convenient to do in bed (just make sure you sew the needles), and it can be fun. Also try listening to music in your iPod, it's what I used to do when I couldn't sleep... but then again I'd doze off to power metal and industrial...(Original post by Anonymous)

I'm nearly 19 now but when I was your age I had that problem, not it's come back again with a vengeance. C'est la vie eh. -

when you next feel awake, try and read this article http://www.supermemo.com/articles/sleep.htm (...I've actually posted this article too many times now) hopefully it will make sense. And no, there isn't a tl;dr version
For a short term solution though, you can try do what the others have advised, by not going to sleep so you will fall asleep earlier the next day. Don't do this every day, just a one off to try and reset your body clock. -

I was about to say see a GP but then you have already...maybe see a different one and mention the hallucinating then they will understand it's a bit more serious than just a bad sleeping pattern
If the article doesn't help I would try see a different GP then. Also, if they try give you sleeping pills, you should know that it isn't a long term solution (and neither is a short one really) -

I had insomnia last may. After a week or two of 2-4 hours a night I started forcing myself to get up at 6 and go running. I stopped drinking anything with caffeine in it and stopped watching tv and using the computer at 7pm. Generally I'd have a bath and try to be in bed for 9.30.
I managed to get a 11-6am sleeping pattern that morphed into my 12-8am one now I'm at uni (admittedly it sometimes becomes 7-8am if I go out or have an essay). -
