    'The Undateables'
What do people think of this latest offering brought to us by Channel 4?

Personally, I am very put off and slightly angered by just the title, the implications that because you have a disability, you are 'undateable'. I disagree, and what people see as a disability is subjective. I know through being a support worker for people with learning disabilities and severe mobility issues that people with disabilities CAN find love, in fact, two people with muscular dystrophy that I work for are getting married this summer

I think people with disabilities should be on TV, and so for this I am glad, but the way they are portrayed (IMO) is definintely in a negative 'them-versus-all-us-normal-people' kind of way.

    Agree or otherwise? Why?

Jus watched it, really liked it. But yeh, the title is a bit of an eyebrow raiser, although obv its supposed to be not taken too literally. The guy with downs is a legend, wouldn't suprise me if he was a serial polygamist, haha. I thought they were a really sweet couple and the girl was really nice. He was a funny chap for sure.

Did anyone watch last night's episode?

I though it was a really interesting series. And the title is just commenting on the fact that disabled people are usually overlooked by most of the population when it comes to dating.

It's obviously a highly prevocative title - but then again Channel 4 isn't exactly known for being sensitive to issues such as disability.

I've watched (with fascination) all three episodes, and have to say I've found that it's portrayed the people looking for a date in a generally positive (and sensitive) light; in particular, the poor man with the facial tumours.

It was an interesting programme. Found most of the people to be genuinely nice. Title was a bit insensitive but the programme was positive about the people on it for the most part.

To be honest, there are plenty of documentary series with slightly eyebrow raising titles. I swear channel four did one not so long ago called 'beauty and the beast' where women that are obssessed with their looks meet people with facial deformity to try and change their outlook on life.

A girl who I was facebook friends with posted a status saying " Watching the undateables, ewwww who would date these desperate people! get a life!"

I quickly defriended her before calling her a vindictive bitch.

We pride ourselves so much on modern society, technology and democracy, but we let our prehistoric instincts get the better of us. I view people who are 100% purely obsessed with looks as weak minded.

The title is meant to mock those who refer to disabled people as 'undateable'...

I like it. If you watch the titles during the ad breaks it does switch from 'The undateables' to 'The dateables' also. The un falls off.

I love this program it's so sweet watching it.
I can't remember the guys name but the one who went on the london eye and had a twin brother just needs to find some confidence and stop comparing him to his brother. I actually didn't realise about his facial disfigurement at first (well he does hide it pretty well with his hair) but he seems really nice.

    Re: 'The Undateables'
I've watched all 3 episodes and I think it was a great documentary. The programme was very informative, eye-opening and sensitive to the stories covered, and I think it did it very well without any obvious offending.

Like DanLorenzo and others said, the title isn't meant to be taken so seriously. And anyway, think about the number of (presumably non-disabled) people on this site alone who are always complaining about how hard it is for them to date anyone, me included haha (well, I have depression though if that counts). I guess disabled or non-disabled, you're either always lucky in that dating stuff or you're not.

Oh, and does anyone know why Kali isn't in any promotional photos for the series? All the other 8 people are, but she isn't, and doesn't even have a picture of herself on the website. I just find that a bit strange, that she'd be on TV but not on anything advertising it (except a few cameos in the TV ads)

Oh yeah, I thought I vaguely remembered seeing him in the Inbetweeners. Did Will or someone in their group make some disability joke and then offend Sam's character? Someone remind me of the episode, please! I tried to search myself but because I don't know Sam's surname, it is pretty hard!

I don't think the title's meant to be offensive, just more thought provoking and it gets people to watch the program and find out more about the people I guess? I think the program is done really well and sensitively anyway, so it kind of balances out the "harsh" title.
