Am I considered an international student?
    Hiyaa

I'm a bit confused to whether i would be classed as a home or international student. I'm 100% british but my parents relocated to outside of the uk/EU and we've been living abroad for about 8 years. We visit home every year but because I haven't been living in england for such a long time, I was wondering if when applying to uni, i would be classed as an international student?

    Thankss

you can be classified as a home student if you were born in the uk OR if one or both of your parents were born in the uk (then you can apply for citizenship) OR if one or both of your grandparents were born in the uk(then you can apply for citizenship as well). last time i checked, that was how it worked, so you should be fine.

In terms of applying to a UK bank, you would not be considered a "resident of the UK" as most of the banks set a requirement of "having lived in the UK the past three years (or more)" -- I'm not sure if the same applies to UK unis.

You are not seriously suggesting that official authorities determine your status based on your skin colour, do you? If neither of your parents is German (did they even apply for citizenship, many people just don't because Germany usually does not allow dual citizenships?) being born in Germany does not change anything as such ridiculous laws (such as in the US) basically make every tourist's child a citizen.

yh they did apply for citizenship and ive been a german national since i was born.
And no im not stating that the authorities are racist either, just saying that since i arrived in the country ive been called an auslander, mainly coz i dont know the language, but that is always before people find out about my nationality.

Oh, I understood that you aren't a German citizen and blame the German authorities for denying you the citizenship because of your skin colour A big sorry for that!

So are you trying to learn German now?

    Thankss

You should be classified as a home student. please do the following as I have been through this and classified as a home student.

    This is my life.

Born in India and lived there for 3 years. I then moved to Dubai. Then my family moved to the UK where we lived for 8 years. We by that time became british. We then moved back to Dubai since my dad's job was transferred there. I wanted to go to uni in the UK and i applied for home status and got it.

All u need to show is a letter from ur dad's company stating that your dad has moved abroad due to work. Also mention that he should get move back in the future. It is also important to show that u own a house there. If u show both then yes you will get a home status.

I did that for Manchester uni and loughborough and was classified as home status by both.

If u need help please pm me

Ultimately, what passport are you holding? Or simply, what is your citizenship? I believe as long as you are a Briton, you will be charged as a home student unless specify by their admission webpage.

Thanks for all the replies. I spoke to a representative of a uni, and even though i am fully british, because my parents haven't paid taxes in the last 3 years, I'm classified as international :l bad times haha
