    URGENT Dissertation and PG
    Hi guys,

Basically my Uni is doing its module enrolment today and to do the ones I want I'll need to change my degree to joint honours (Politics/History instead of the former).

It means my degree will almost definitely be in history. However as a masters I want to study politics, probably transitional conflict or theory.

I was wondering whether your dissertation choice will be looked at when you go for Postgrad. I don't want to be shunned because I have chosen something unrelated to the course.

The reason I'd choose that, is because what I have thought of will be completely original research. My current tutor really wants me to pursue it.

    Thanks

Essentially, it doesn't really matter. I mean it helps to write a dissertation on a relevant topic to the MA that you are applying for purely because it gives you something to talk about in your personal statement (and again in terms of applying for funding, it gives you something to talk about) however PLENTY of people do topics on unrelated things and the dissertation really speaks for itself as an extended piece of research which prepares you for the dissertation you will write as part of your MA.

So basically don't worry about it. As long as you have good references, at least a 2.1., and you're not applying to anywhere ridiculously competitive, you should have no problems in gaining admission to a politics MA. Funding is a completely different matter however
