    Southampton or Surrey
    Hey,
    I am from Egypt, and interested in Mechanical or Aerospace Course, but I can't decide what university to choose,
    what do you think about both unis? accommodation, living costs, transportation, academic life, etc.

    Thanks =)

    There is a first year student who posted about his experiences after first term in Southampton doing Mechanical Engineering he speaks in a very detailed way about the course structure, lectures, accomodation, etc. You can find it here. Make sure to read his updated posts too on the last or second to last page!

    In general - Southampton is the more respected university, is in a bigger area and is in a cheaper area. I don't know about accommodation or anything specificially for Mechanical or Aerospace but that is just the general reputation of the two.

    I applied to both and from those 2, my first choice was Southampton based on the department and overall university ranking. I applied for civil engineering btw.

    I think Soton is generally more respected but I have to say I was very impressed by Surrey when I visited - haven't been to Soton am afraid.

    I've firmed Soton for next year
    Went to Surrey before applying, really didn't like the uni much to be honest, much preferred Soton.
    Crime (I here) is good there, ofcourse every city has it's better and worse parts, the uni is based out of town so has a low crime rate..

    I here it's relatively expensive in comparison to the "cheaper" uni's, but probably about the same living costs as Surrey, halls are expensive, but then again they are everywhere..
