anyway, OP. yes. yes, they are.
i met a few veterinary students during a summer course in Cambridge last year, and they were stunning. a bit on the easy side too, i hardly had to move a finger (trolololol what a pun). so based on that experience, i can tell you that your five years will definitely not be wasted.
