Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May examI don't have any notes but I can give a few tips...(Original post by FK_)
Does anybody have any revision websites or notes they could share for the writing task?
Especially anything which helps with the exam technique for the content part of the writing section.
How much do you write on each bullet point?
How much do you need to expand for the bullet points seeing as you're quite restricted with the word limit?
Any help would be much appreciated.
You write about 50 words per bullet (if 4) or 40 per bullet(if 5), as it's 200-220 total.
In terms of expanding, if they ask for something plural i.e. Moeglichkeiten, expand on one, and mention a second. With questions, do the same.
I would really recommend looking at the examiners reports on exam sites for content.. They show some good examples where people write really interestingly rather than the standard response, and it's not impossible language either!
Hope I helped

Thank you
this has been useful! Also using atleast 5 peices of A-level standard vocab as most people still use basic vocabulary. Oh and create a mental check list
Can anyone help me with this- if I was writing to complain or apply for something what would I say?
Ich schreibe Ihnen, um (über mein Urlaub nach Spanien) zu beschweren
and
Ich möchte mich( für einen Platz auf Ihrem Firma) bewerben
thanks in advance

Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May examThe reading and listening was especially hard this year, I thought. I was also quite surprised to see that Hoertext 3 (the one where you have to match the words from the box) was really hard because I recall actually being able to work them out, even without listening to the tape on some of the past papers. That part was really difficult. My teacher also said there were grammar mistakes in the reading part!! I'm just gonna say what i put and can remember (it reaallly could be wrong though):(Original post by Chucklebot)
Eurgh the exam went terrible for me, except for the writing which was great
can any of you guys remember the abswers you put for the first 3 listening because im seriously freaking outD:
1: all the questions i can remember is that it was both ungesund und lecker, senkt den Blutdruck. I cant remember B) and D) Sorry!
2: I know the answers were in couplets, something like c,d f,g for example. I was pretty sure the medical thing had to be ticked but was debating that.
3: the hardest one, I thought it was verlaengern, einige (some people were saying gegen but i'm sure i heard that some schools in Hamburg adopted a few of the changes), mehr, weniger.
Writing was really nice
but i thought it was generally the hardest paper that they've made in terms of the other parts. I thought the german part of the reading was especially difficult cause i kept writing too much, ahh fingers crossed

Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May exam
The long Interrail Question really really messed me up.
Also, the listening about the unemployed man wasn't my best listening in history.
For the first question, I put:
Gesund und lecker (because it said Schlokolade kann), not always, but she was talking about the benefits of it.
Senkt den Blutdruck
Verhindern some illnesses
and Weniger Schokolade
I thought the paper was difficult, and the reading text about the Global Warming Issues were quite hard as well.
Especially as I was quite lethargic by this point. But, I hope my speaking and writing brings up my grade, since I need a miracle. -
Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May exam
for the first listening I got the same as above ^^
for the second I got four in a row- I think c,d,e,f?
the third one I found so hard for some reason! I put verlaengen, gegen, alle and weniger.
On the interrail reading one I couldn't understand what the elderly people wanted...
Anyone else?Last edited by athousandmiles; 24-05-2012 at 13:24. -
Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May exam
It depends, from 2010 they stopped putting 'mit Ihren eigenen Worten auf' because they give allowances for what they call, 'targeted lifts' from the text and they mark in the order you give information. So if it was for one mark, and you gave two points, they would only mark the first point you made regardless of what the second part stated. I lifted a bit too but i tried to do it sparingly. It was a really confusing text

Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May examI thought that was weird too, I think it was something to do with culture. I just put something like 'mehr Kultur zu erhalten, die nicht zu teuer ist'?! very confusing. For New Zealand, were the key words deutlich and abwechslungsreich. Was one of them something about them trying to speak clearly as well as them being described as friendly?(Original post by athousandmiles)

Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May examAh I think I put something about wanting to experience new towns and cultures. Yes, I got that she liked her job because it was varied (abwechslungsreich) and the people spoke clearly so she could understand(Original post by P3847)

I didn't actually mind that question but the rest weren't great.

Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May exami have 'einige' instead of 'alle' for question three.. coz i thought only student that goes to gymnasium do abitur and students goes to haupt/realschule will do a Haupt/realschuleabschluss instead..(Original post by athousandmiles)

Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May examI put einige first then changed it... I thought it said "sowie das Abitur" so it would be "as well as the abitur". I'm probably wrong though, I dithered over it for ages!(Original post by orzme)

Re: German AS Edexcel 23rd May exam
Personally, I found it alright but there were some really bad questions.
Listening was harder than usual (but not impossible), in particular the 3rd reading part, though I don't think the 2nd and 4th were that easy either.
Reading was again harder than they usually do. I struggled for about 5 minutes to recall what a PKW was but saw 'W' and thought 'Wagen' so I probably got that one right. The English reading was the nicer one, but I did a lot of pulling things out of the text (like some other people have done!) and I'm hoping they won't penalise too much.
Writing was actually about normal, if a little easy (the Online Shopping one in January was evil) but I think it went okay.
On the whole, I think it was harder than they usually set, so they might drop the boundaries a little (2 or 3 Marks - maybe a little more). It didn't help that there was lots of noise outside when I was doing it. Der Gottverdamter Rasenmäher! (It made a lot of noise)
