I have my 4TH TEST TOMORROW!!! I feel sick
Here's what happened in my previous tests:

#1- Really friendly examiner, put me at ease however in the first five minutes of the test I clipped a curb with my back wheel- burst out into tears on the spot- blinded by tears I motored up a bank when I shouldn't have (traffic coming down) squeezing myself into a space rather tight making it difficult for the traffic to get passed...I only got a minor for the clip because it was a back wheel, If I had know I might of kept my cool and certainly wouldn't have gone up that road. End result = 1Major 2Minor - Fail but not to disheartened as it was my first test.

#2- Very professional, quiet examiner, the silence made me more nervous yet my drive overall was better, Unfortunaley literally 3 minutes away from the test center on the way back I indicated to early and got given a major...very upset because I would not have felt the need to put it on earlier than normal had he not asked me to change direction three times coming up to a crossroad " Go straight ahead" - all the correct proceedure (e.g checks n mirror) "I mean go right" - again I did all the correct procedure changing lanes to the righ only to be told " Sorry I meant left, left for leek, sorry." by which point I was a cars length away from the lights at the crossroads. End Result = 1 Major 3 Minor - fail absolutely gutted , thought I had it in the bag! Overall I felt good and just wanted to retake because I felt as though I was close.

Rebooked test but got canceled due to frost/snow which meant from failing in Jan 28th I couldnt get another one til APRIL 9th which was then later change to April 18th two days before due 'unforeseen circumstances'!

#3- Lovely male examiner, but a bit tooo talkative lol. Absolute diaster, was in a hire car as my instructor had some one back into him, chucked it down with rain, had my speed displayed on a big screen at the front of the car and set off knowing I had already got a minor as I got a Q wrong-- to be honest I think the accumilation off things just meant my head wasn't in the zone, i just couldnt concentrate. End result = 1 Major ( cutting someone up on a cross road) and 8 Minors.

I then have had to wait until now due to University Exams. My confidence just hit an all time low after fail number 3 ( I'm dreading tomorrow--it not the 'fail' that annoys me just all the money and how sick I feel the day before the day and the day after lol!

Yesterday was my 4th fail I should probably just never be allowed on the roads but I need to pass for my job.
Ah that's not true! It sounds like you were a bit unlucky in your last test. Just gotta keep at it, I know that's probably the last thing you want to hear now but it really is true...

Early signals would usually be a minor Sounds just like bad luck.
Good luck, tell us how it goes

Your experience sounds really similar to mine. It was my fifth test today and thankfully I passed - if I didn't I would have given up and started again in a couple of years. I'm over the moon, but part of me can't help thinking it's luck - the time of day, examiner and even time of the week.

I think you should definitely do what I did and get a couple more lessons and then take your fifth test. It sounds like you're only failing on one thing on all your tests (like I was) so I doubt you need too much more practice. It's hard to keep going but maybe one last try will pay off like it has for me. And GOOD LUCK!!

    Hi Friends,

Well I have also failed my exam once and giving it again this friday, but me being in London on a Friday evening at at 5.30 might not help me with traffic, I had a perfect exam as well the first one with three minors but 1 major for staying on left lane when the examiner asked me to take second exit, I have confirmed from a lot of people here on the forum too and all have said I should have stayed in left lane for straight ahead, but i was failed and this was when this roundabout was a part of independent driving where my instructor told me that a wrong exit on a roundabout is ok as long as you follow the rules, I really have no more money to put in to my driving exams, I have driven on roads for more than a year about 2 years back and never had any incident, but this is getting on my nerves, already spent 500 and 140 more to go for test and hire car, i was so pissed off that I have not even taken any classes since i last failed as it was only 2 weeks ago, and my instructor told me too that my driving was quite good an people less confident in driving than me have passed, I am just hoping that this time I pass else I will be gutted, just dont want to ideally if possible spend any more money on tests anymore, but I need it only for my family, I have never really felt a need for car but for family I cant help but get it somehow. All I can suggest is that think positive like in my case I am thinking, friday evening just before the end of day for examiner so he might ask me to do less manoeuvres, could get some time stuck in traffic and hence less drive, all the places I can go to and explore if i have a car and all that. Think positive, It might help but this is coming from a person who has already failed once so dont take my word for it

1st test today. Failed with 1 major and 8 minors.

Wasn't overly nervous but was convinced that I wouldn't pass. I didn't have one of the usual examiners that were there, and the one I had was fairly strict.

The irony is, is that my test route involved a big roundabout under the M25 from two different directions. The Brook St. roundabout has always confused me in the past on my lessons and I have always managed to make some sort of mistake such as not building enough speed, not signalling, etc. I managed the roundabout fine today (both times) but failed my test by mucking up a turn in the road, something which I have done absolutely fine in the past!:confused:

Stalled it twice and hit the kerb.

Yeah I think (although paying out each time is annoying) you have to keep doing it now before you give up and leave it for years by which time you could have been driving.

I have my third test in a few weeks and its an early 8:10am slot which I've never had but am having early lessons to practice and really hope I don't make silly mistakes which made me fail last two times! ://

If only my driving instructor could be my examiner and a good lesson could be my test! Its not like everytime you drive you'll have an examiner sitting next to you making you sick with worry ugh I hate exam scenarios

Maybe you could ask your instructor or a parent to be in the back of the car with you?
I know it's hard to tell people not to be nervous, as I know I was, but you just need to think of it as another driving lesson. The examiner does loads of tests a day, they're used to it and all they want to see is if you can drive safely. If something panics you on the road, just keep calm and remember to always think of the safest option.

Maybe try rescue remedy too, if your nerves are getting to you. Good luck!

Just failed today with 7 minors and 2 serious. Pity, my parallel park was pretty nifty.
1st serious was a green jag on a roundabout. When I checked, he looked like he was hesitating and looking to the right which would give me time to pull out. I look again and he's in the wrong lane and sped up my rear end! :P
2nd was for overtaking a parked vehicle in a congested area. I could see whilst approaching that a guy on the opposite side of the road was letting two cars in front of me through so I joined them, keeping close to the second car so I could slot in easily. As soon as I pull round, he's flashing me as if he didn't expect me to be there.
Lesson learned: until proven otherwise, assume everyone else on the road is an idiot and will drive like Lindsay Lohan on a Friday night.

edit: I got negged for trying to help someone when I have experience of failing my test multiple times?
Yeah i know, I was less nervous the second time so hopefully third time lucky now I know how everything goes
I think id be more worried with another person in there - double pressure!

Just failed my test today. The examiner put me in a very bad mood before we even began as my signature has changed a lot since I got my provisional license; ok, my bad, but apparently my driving license photo 'doesn't even look like me' (I've lost a tiny bit of weight) and he was convinced I wasn't who I said I was. I was fuming when we got to the car, I don't even know why they let me continue with the test. I felt I was in control at all times, but got 3 major faults apparently :|

I failed, 17minors and 2 serious. Twas awful. My mum says its overconfidence, as I was so hopeful and desperate to pass - probs was. I got a serious near the start when I was in the wrong lane in a roundabout, and saw that I got it and fell apart, so that explains the minors (it was a roundabout I've done like A MILLION times as well) And it was torrential rain and a route I've never seen in my life and a LOT of extremely steep hills. I know its not an excuse but I'm trying to make myself feel better - I did the dreaded reverse around the corner without any problems, which doesn't help. Whats more, is that I got 5 minors the first time so looks like I'm getting worse? :'(

Just keep your chin up, take a few more tries and then go for your test again. If I can pass then surely other people can. I am dreading driving on the road.

Although it's much worse on the practical test, the exact same thing happened at my driving theory! I had to try and do my signature ten times, with the woman getting more irate every time I didn't get it close enough to my license signature. I kept telling her that if she gave me a piece of paper I could do it much better than a stupid electronic pad!

Just keep confident and have a few more lessons and you should be fine. :console:

Thanks, I'll try though i feel really depressed! I'm so annoyed at myself! Theres a slot for tomorrow, don't know whether to go for it my parents are saying if I've failed by that much then I need more work, but I'm not sure what more I can do :/ I've already spent about £1000 on lessons... I'm worried about driving on the road too but I know it won't be as bad, an examiner wont be sat next to you and in real life people take the wrong lane all the time, as long as they fix it safely. I just decided to do it during my exam :'(

Yeah, don't worry, praying for you and everyone to pass. It's usually because of other idiot driver's on the road which hinder our practical test. One thing I made sure to do was to ask my instructor every question as much as I can, e.g is the parallel park this much, bay parking, etc etc.

Try not to stress. Make sure you get a good night's sleep.

So happy I passed my test yesterday, they say third time lucky but for me it was fourth times a charm lol. Reading this thread really helped me, my confidence was soo low and I felt like I was the only one to ever fail a driving test, and nobody understands how rubbish you feel afterwards.

I deffinately tell anyone who has failed to stick at it, I was adimant not to carry on driving after all the fails and money but if I didnt I would never of passed.

I have to agree with pellejama I think luck plays a big part, I also think nerves play a huge part, I failed my 1st test due to nerves and then every test after that just becomes more nervewracking- definately take it slow and I even verbalised what I was doing and why , the examiner actually said that at a open few junctions I was just pausing then rolling out where he'd rather me to make more observations but since I did really well on the trickier closed junctions such as sayin 'mirrors, signal, brake, gears, stop , check, go' really showed him that I knew what I was doing - so if it doesn't make you lose focus you could try doing that.

Good Luck to everyone...Truely believe you will ALL get there one day and I think the feeling of passing increases tenfold with every fail you have to endure before...deffinately think it makes you a stronger person to!

I have to agree that luck and nerves play a big part of a test. I failed mine today with 1 dangerous and 8 minors because a situation that I've never dealt with happened during the test.

I was approaching a double mini-roundabout. Then I went through the first one fine, then on the second one, I had to turn right.

The exit the had roadworks almost all the way up to the roundabout itself, leaving barely enough room for the roadworks' signs. The oncoming side of the road was clear, but was covered by a blind spot, which was high fencing. Therefore, the only way to get past it was to move from the roundabout and slightly into the oncoming road.

I stopped before turning at the roundabout to check for cars because of the blind spot. When it was apparent that there were no cars left, I turned into the roundabout and then suddenly there was suddenly oncoming traffic and there were three cars going through the roadworks. Not wanting to get involved in a collision, I panicked and hesitated to steer and nearly hit the roadworks... and that's how I failed

Apparently, what I should have done is I should have stopped at the roundabout, which was something I thought I wasn't allowed to do.
