What AS Subject should I drop?
I am currently studying AS Level and am wondering which subject I should drop for A2. I currently study Maths, Physics, Computing and Economics.

I would like to go on to study Computer Science at hopefully Cambridge, Imperial, York, Durham or Manchester.

On all University Computer Science pages, it specifically mentions that they do not require you to study Computing to take the degree. In fact, they say that they would rather you do Maths, Further Maths or a science instead.

I really enjoy Maths and Physics so would not like to drop them so the toss up is between Economics and Computing.

Which one of those do you think I should drop?

    Thanks

If you drop Computing, I would expect that you will be questioned on this at your Cambridge interview. It's one thing to never take Computing at all - this may be because your school doesn't offer it - but it's quite another to start it and then drop it.

Do you need to drop a subject? You're applying to some top universities who will, as suggested above, question why you've dropped the subject you want to take - unless, of course, you plan to replace it with a more useful subject, such as Further Maths.

But if you must drop a subject, then Economics seems to be the obvious choice.

Drop economics if you want to do computing at University and you enjoy the other A Levels you are taking.

it depends what you enjoy more, and how strong you are in both subjects, so you'll need to consider which one youre like to get a better grade in too!

I'd say economics, even if it says computing isn't needed it usually helps to have it. Besides, its better to have it than to have dropped it at AS.

I reckon economics is more valuble than computing. Therefore, computing would be the one to drop

I would like to drop one and then as you say, maybe do AS Further Maths for a 4th subject.

Thanks for everyone's input I will send a few emails to admissions tutors and see what they suggest as well.

At the moment I'm probably leaning towards dropping Computing.
