    What to resit
    Hi,

I'm in year 13 and aiming for an A in Economics. Things haven't gone well so far. I did badly in Unit 1 (F581) and resat it this June, getting 74/100. After a remark, that went up to 80/100. In Unit 2 (F582) I got 83/100 first time around. Unit 3 (F583) didn't go nearly as well as I thought (the paper was excellent, I posted here and told my teacher my exact answers and everyone said I go it right despite the fact that everything that came up was literally everything I knew!) and I got 63/100. I should get my remark results back tomorrow.

So now I'm in a predicament -- to get an A overall I'd need 320/100 and my standing total is 227 -- meaning I'd need 93/100 on Unit 4 (F585) (which is very unlikely). I really don't want to resit Unit 3 because it could potentially be the hardest exam I'll ever take so my options are either to resit Unit 1 or Unit 2.

I pretty much know Unit 1 inside out, but the markers are always stupidly stringent and have given me crappy scores twice now. I can't remember back to Unit 2, but there may be a lot of overlap with Unit 5 (they're both macroeconomics) but I did fine it Unit 2 first time around.

Of course, there's the fact that if I resit another paper, my Unit 5 will go down and I won't get the score I need on either.

I'm in a really difficult situation here and would appreciate TSR's help

It's always tricky deciding which papers to resit. It's so difficult when you're close to the boundary on all three modules as neither one of the three has many extra marks available to you.

I think you need to be realistic about how much work you're going to do. If you're going to work flat-out and revise like a hermit then do the exam that will give you the best pay-off, otherwise sit the exam that will cost you the least in terms of compromising study time from your A2 exams.

All that said, it doesn't usually hurt to resit an exam without much preparation - just walk in and see what happens. (I got myself 95% in a Bio exam the way). If you know module 1 inside out, this could be an option. Put in for both 1 and 2 then only focus hard on 2 and set aside a mere couple of hours to refresh yourself for 1. This would work well for your situation because you don't have many marks available to you in either paper but a few marks in each would get you where you need to be. Be careful though as some uni's ask you to declare how many resits you've done - the ones I applied to didn't so I had nothing to lose.

Ouch. Why are you resitting Unit 3? Wouldn't it be better just to concentrate on the other three?

I hate it when colleges do that, it's such a bad idea. I understand why they do it but the negatives far outweigh the positives.
