I don't get why people find it necessary to strip to their underwear and pose pics.
    I don't understand this either

But if it's females, I ain't gonna ask questions tbh

I have wanted to delete facebook for ages now...but unfortunately there are some good things about it, like:

    - I don't have to bother taking my own photos of events if other people are like "I'll just put these on facebook"

    - It means I can keep in touch with people in my family who live in different countries easily

    - I'm a member of a few important groups and we discuss important stuff on there, e.g. senior prefects, house captains, etc. I'd miss out on a lot of decision making if I didn't have facebook.

Apart from that, as other people have said, it's a place where egocentric/narcissistic/vain people thrive and will continue to make a sideshow out of people's lives with this weird obsession of 'photo uploads' and 'x number of likes' and 'status updates'... One day, I will delete it for good.

I deleted it a while ago as it was pointless and I was very happy at this.

I've got it back now though, as I'm going to Uni, and it's the best way to keep in touch with friends.

Why delete your facebook when you can just delete these people? :holmes:
Because 'deleting people' is called first degree murder.

People on Twitter (and probably Instagram and Tumblr) do this as well.

    Re: People's Lives Are Facebook
I don't mind Facebook, in itself. I have it, and it's great for keeping in contact with people, as I have a lot of friends who live far away.

But, I hate it when people get obsessed.
Yes, I have Facebook, but my life doesn't revolve around it. I often go for days or weeks at a time without checking it, and barely notice.

Recently I had a cull, as it was getting stupid... my wall was getting clogged up with people I never spoke to, or who I didn't even like.

Facebook isn't bad in itself, but it's HOW people use it.

Some of the reasons I culled people:

    - Constant whiney statuses. "Urgh, hate Monday... back to work." "My life is ****." "Sick of work." "If I wanted to know about the Jubilee, I'd be watching it. I don't want constant updates on fb!" (So get off facebook for 5 minutes of your life, idiot.)
I understand people having a bad day, but whining and moaning EVERY day? Why would I want that clogging up my wall?

    - People who let facebook replace real life.
Really hate this. A few months ago, I met up with some friends. At lunch, they took photos of our food "for facebook", updated their status about the great weather (to show off to friends), and their phones hardly left their hands - especially when that stupid fb alert pinged every 5 seconds. They paid more attention to Facebook than they did to me.
Yes, Facebook allows you to "stay connected" and whatnot. And that's good. But I'm not going to spend time with people who ignore me for a status update because they think they'll miss out on something awesome or vitally important if they switch off fb for half an effing hour. I refuse to play gooseberry to a blackberry (or iphones, or any other smartphone etc). It's not "cool", it's RUDE.
If you make me feel that I'd get more attention having sat at home on fb, than actually having come out with you, then I'm not going to bother.

    - People who moan, on Facebook, about what other people post as statuses, eg "I don't want to see your religious/political/monarchist/sports crap all over my news feed! Aargh!" So either get off Facebook for a bit, hide the offending statuses/posters, or unfriend/block. It's not that hard!

I have no problem with Facebook in itself - I quite like it. (Though, I do think its programmers must have been on some sort of acid trip or something when they thought up the Timeline. Gah.)
But it's not my entire life.
I think the problem comes, when people make it their entire life. They get obsessed with being "connected", with seeing the latest status update/photo/video etc IMMEDIATELY, and they don't even seem to realise that it's actually rude to prioritise someone on facebook, over someone sat right in front of them. Something is wrong with some people.

I'm a guy, 20 years old...and I do have a facebook account. However I have previously deleted it in the past, only to realise it's like not owning a mobile phone. Plus I have a lot of old friends and friends from sport I compete in and random people tag me in pictures of me in my sport which is cool. However I do not like using facebook. I don't even fill out any information about myself let alone upload pictures other than a profile picture.

It really annoys me when people upload pictures of themselves everyday, or pictures of the food they've just cooked etc. It seems that people live in a 'facebook' kind of way nowadays...where it almost matters more about how they appear on facebook than how they appear to us in real life. My friends are always updating statuses when they go out places, and take photos of what they're doing. I just keep away from all that and I am also really contemplating deleting my facebook again...if it wasnt for all the old friends from my sport and the pictures then I would delete it right away. I guess i'm just the one who is rebelling against the 'modern way of living'...I almost think I should have been born in another era!

What are your views on this?
    Yeah ditto!

If anything, i wish that FB never really existed and that things like MSN and skype will still be more prevalent in this day and age. At least we get to see our friends over these IMS.

I did contemplate deleting it too but people around you would deem you an anomaly if you did.

    Ahhhh the MSN days.

But then you just had people who sat at their computer all day on it.

People just can't seem to disconnect themselves these days.

I'm glad Facebook exist, it helps me to stay in touch with my friends and people I meet. If someone annoys me I delete or unsubscribe them so I don't need to look at the crap they post. I don't feel like I need to check it every minute but my life would completely change if it wasn't there. You just shouldn't take it too seriously.

Yeah the whole KONY thing although serious became a little laughable...

In one case I remember seeing "Don't worry if you don't understand what it's all about, just be sure to hit the 'like' button to show your support".

So in this instance fb users became a bunch of so-called social activists determined by whether they "like" something or not, even if they don't understand it.

What a joke but at the same time, how sad.
    So ridiculous!!!

I go on Facebook once in a while, and now I remember - I was on Facebook for 5 minutes and I remember being invited to a 'Stop Kony' event somewhere in London.

    I didn't go.

This. Now there are so many options to regulate it too, there are several people I've unfriended, and those who are just annoying (but close), I remove from newsfeed. I heard someone say that you can exclude yourself from getting invitations to events too.

Another annoying thing is how employers can now seem to fire employees based on things they have written on facebook.

This is disgusting and should definitely not be allowed.
