nursing with a mental health problem
I have bipolar and History of a serious eating disorder.

I have a place for MH nursing in September. I am looking forward to it but I'm also starting to get a bit nervous because of my mental health problems.
I'm am pretty stable with my bipolar but I will always have it and I'm know that at one point in the 3years I train I will probably have a depressive or manic episode.
I want to be a good nurse and I don't want to not do the course because I have a mental health problem. I've worked hard to get to this point and want to finish what I started.

Has anyone else here studied nursing with a mental health problem. Can you give me any advice about how to do my best while dealing with my illness?

    Thanks

I haven't experienced this but I'm sure you need to tell the University which you are studying that you have bipolar disorder. This is because they need to inform the NMC so that your absence (if you need to take a few days off from the course) can be explained. They're very strict on the exact days you need to be on placement to be able to complete the course.

Thanks. I already knew this. I will definitely be telling the university.

I havent but a few people on my course have and occy health have been fantastic with them and so have the tutors. They have things in place, at some uni time is built into the course in case you do take time off at other places you just make the time up at the end. Good luck
