Spaniards! Are there spanish students in here?
    Hello there!

I'm Jorge, from Spain and I would like to know if there are a Spanish society in this forum.
Would be great change information or point of views, right?

So please, feel free to talk about what you want, and of course if people from other nationalities have some questions about Spain or something I'll be pleased to answer them.

    See ya!

I might be going to study at IE University in Madrid (or Segovia? not sure what to choose) later this year and well, I don't really know if Spain is a good choice for me (considering the ongoing crisis and the fact that my Spanish is absolute zero).

So any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi the_13th.

There are some points in your post that I would like to talk about.

Firstly the university, Madrid or Segovia are quite good but there are someones better than these like University of Navarra (http://www.unav.es/english/) or the Barcelona's one (http://www.ub.edu/web/ub/en/), If you are thinking about one Spanish University, I'd think seriously in that. Although, as I said, Madrid or Segovia have really good ones.

About the Spanish economic situation... is well known that the country is going through a tough moments,...If you want to find a job or create a company obviously is not the best choice. but if you come here just for study you won't have any problem I think, It's a good country to study a degree, like I said there are some great universities.

And the main problem, you've said that your spanish level is zero...What do you mean by "zero"? Any word in Spanish? Do you have a basic level? My recommendation, try to improve your Spanish language skills before you come because if not... will be a waste of time IMHO.

And that's it, if you want more information or something just tell me, I´ll try to help as much as possible.

And sorry about my spelling mistakes dude!

    Hi,

I chose Madrid, because there is an English-speaking university there, called IE.

IE University in Madrid is fully in English and I think one has to speak Spanish in order to study at either of the two you mentioned.

And well my Spanish IS zero. I mean I played Total Overdose so I remember some phrases from it like [SPELLING/MISTAKES alert...] "hey pendejo, chupo me la poya" or "chiquita, tos ojos sont mue bonitos, te quiero, aqui i ahora",

and obviously I know my tacos, burritos, fajitos, cesadillas, nachos, etc (which is all irrelevant in Spain I guess)

    So yeah, nothing.

What bothers me is that nobody knows this IE university and I don't know if I should go there after all...

lol you made me laugh so hard with your spanish demostration!

About the IE Universities. They are not one of the "big ones" but I know some experiences from foreign students and all of them told me good things about them. On the internet you can find really good opinions about this university and if they are fully in English you won't have any problem to get the lessons.

As long as your uni is fully in English you should be fine. Theres areas in the city where international students tend to hang out so I'm sure you could easily make friends. Now....Spain isnt very popular for its peoples knowledge of the english language, theres quite a bunch of people who can't speak in english at all, but I guess you could always learn the basics in spanish (how to ask for directions, simple vocabulary to go shopping..) and you would be perfectly fine. It's just that depending on the area where you live it will be easier or not to find people who speak english.

Btw Jorge, I had no idea that the Universidad de Navarra was considered a good one :/

    Hi Colpejafort!

About the University of Navarra, it depends on the sort of degree you are doing doing. For instance, teachers, doctors or other social branches have a good reputation i think

Apparently I´ll be learning Spanish once I´m there, but the first several months I´ll be just walking with a dictionary bothering everyone, hahaha

what do you mean by "not one of the big ones"?

Is that amongst Spanish universities, or globally? If it doesn´t have a decent reputation and employment prospects, then I would rather study elsewhere. Spain is nice and the weather is pleasant, but I wanna make sure my degree gets me some....

I mean globally. Of course any Spanish university can be compared with Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton, Harvard... but on the European zone they have some acknowledgements.
So in my humble opinion It's a good idea study a degree in Spain nowadays though the economic situation is really bad but that doesn't affect the universities or their students so... check your possibilities and go for it. And you know, if you have any question I'll be here

    q vas a estudiar?
