Medieval camping trip, anyone?
In recent years and months, I have become increasingly frustrated and somewhat suppressed by modern society. Medicine is all well and good, and the internet is admittedly quite valuable, but other than that I must say I am completely tired of it all.
Thus, I decided to combine my two favourite things - sitting in a field in the rain, and reenacting aspects of the medieval era.
If anyone is interested at all in spending a few days to a week camping somewhere quiet and calm with no technology post about 1450, please let me know. I will be more than happy to give anyone who chooses to come along rudimentary training in the medieval martial arts, so any other sword nutters out there should definitely consider getting in touch!
I have plenty of suitable kit and equipment and a relatively sizable tent, so nobody need purchase anything - woolen, linen and cotton clothes are perfectly suitable.
I am not really expecting many people to be interested in this at all, but I certainly hope to have two or three of my fellow enthusiasts there with me, so get in touch! -
Re: Medieval camping trip, anyone?Hopefully, everything will be pretty much authentic. Sometimes I take liberties and shortcuts but I never use materials that weren't available in the era. Some minor modern bits and bobs for the others will be ok, but I think it would spoil it if we used modern tents and sleeping bags. I have plenty of skins, coats and a large cloak which I am happy to share with whomever needs warmth!(Original post by geetar)
Will the camping equipment be authentic? No modern tents, sleeping bags, modern food, etc.
In terms of food, we might have to make acceptances in terms of storage and supply, although I am hoping to find somewhere with a farm shop close enough to buy fresh food each day. -
Re: Medieval camping trip, anyone?Splendid! This thread contains literally all the thought and planning I've put into this project so far. I'm hoping that we can organise it as a group, if a group comes together!(Original post by Lore92)
Heya,
I'm pretty interested in this. Actually, I have been modelling some 3d medieval houses and stuff, just for fun. I'll be starting at BBK in october 2012, I'm in italy at the moment. When were you thinking of doing this camp? I'd join for sure if were there

Re: Medieval camping trip, anyone?... Thinking about it, that is very sensible.(Original post by Manitude)
Camping out in the middle of nowhere with no contact to the outside world with a stranger on the internet who has swords?
I think I'll pass, ta. -
Re: Medieval camping trip, anyone?I'm sure you don't intend to kill anyone, I mean - I wouldn't have advertised the weaponry thing that was the case.(Original post by MrHayden)

Plus I know a fair few people from tunbridge wells so I probably know people who know you

Re: Medieval camping trip, anyone?Ah yes, Tunbridge Wellians are a splendid lot. I'm at Bennett Memorial, do we share any friends?(Original post by Manitude)

Re: Medieval camping trip, anyone? The people I know mostly came from Tech/grammar school for boys.(Original post by MrHayden)
Ah yes, Tunbridge Wellians are a splendid lot. I'm at Bennett Memorial, do we share any friends?
But they know quite a few people from other schools by spending a long time in spoons. -
Re: Medieval camping trip, anyone?I will be, but it would be pretty difficult and unrealistic for most people, as well as rather expensive. Wool jumpers, linen and cotton shirts and trousers, all that sort of stuff will do the job fine, try to avoid anything plastic!(Original post by BritGirl)
Will we have to dress in medieval costumes aswell?
Linen trousers wouldn't be particularly warm but woolen ones are probably quite hard to find, so I guess jeans might have to be an exception. Other than that I think it would be good if everyone tries to avoid wearing modern materials. -
Re: Medieval camping trip, anyone?
That sounds so nice, even though I have no clothes like those... hey hang on, I work in a medieval castle as a guide, I may "borrow" something from our buddies but perhaps spending 3 days with a 30kg chain mail may be demanding
If you do this in september it's likely I'll join you
