New job - mixed emotions :s
So I started my new job in a sales role in advertsing a week ago today and I'm really feeling a multitude of different emotions - I'm worried I'm not going to cope with the workload as I'm only being introduced slowly so far.

I'm also scared about making mistakes and I've got a pretty bad fear of being shouted at and my boss is a pretty formidable woman :s also as I'm studying for a degree part time alongside I'm worried the stress is going to be too much.

I'm trying to focus on the positives such as my colleagues being really friendly, the great location (I can walk to work - no more petrol costs!) and the good salary and potential for great bonuses. But I have this nagging anxious feeling whenever I'm not at work.

Is this normal when starting a new job. It is my first full time 'proper' job after 4 years in a really small family owned shop part time so I may just be having issues adjusting.

I guess I'm just looking for a bit of advice and reassurance that it's normal/understandable to feel this way, or if I need to talk to my manager.

    Thanks for reading this far!

    ..............
In my experience of starting new jobs they go like this -

Weeks 1 and 2 - completely disoriented, far too many names and facts to remember, but everybody is nice and smiley so it doesn't matter.
Weeks 3-4 - this job is utterly horrible, what on earth possessed me to even apply? I haven't got a clue what's going on. How quickly can I get out of here?
Weeks 5-6 - actually, there are bits of this job I can do quite well. Its quite a good job really. It's certainly good to be paid - my weekends and wardrobe are better! It's worth hanging around in this job
Weeks 6+ things all look good.

You might have got to week 3 a little earlier, but stick it out and get into a routine and you might get to the week 5-6 feeling a little sooner as well!

Thanks This seems like it could be true, I'm starting to feel some aspects of week 3 already but I'm definatley going to stick it out. Nice to hear that you've experienced this too. Very reassuring.

Hopefully things get better for you, it can be SO daunting starting a new job.

My first job out of my masters was a total shock to the system after spending five years in uni!

It's all about getting into the swing of it and learning the routine and hopefully it'll all come together for you.
Thanks. It's certainly taken its time but I think I'm finally at a point where I don't physically dread it in the mornings. It's not what I expected it to be and I know it's not going to be for the long haul. But 6 weeks in I feel as though I'm getting there at least. Let's see how it goes from here..........
