Erm OP I hope this isn't getting to you too much. I know what you mean, you should try to get away from these sorts of people and don't feel ashamed or embarrassed about what you believe in. I know some of the stuff on TSR is extreme and they probably wouldn't say it in public so don't worry.

You're not alone. I too feel we are going backwards. As you say, any stand for women's rights gets pushed back with cries of 'Stupid feminist', by men and women. Stay strong, put your head up high, and continue with the good fight. Things will never be truly equal, we'll never be truly fully respected, especially globally, but we can get as close as we can...

    Aaaaand cue neg reps...
    Agreed!

No. Don't. Because I respect your point. There's always someone out there worse off. It can give you perspective if needed but doesn't mean you should demean your opinion/emotions as unworthy.

People who take these LAD things overboard probably aren't getting any, hence their resentment towards women. It's common sense to know when a jokes going too far, unfortunately some people lack even the most fundamental intelligence.

This is something that has gotten me down so much I often find myself in tears out of frustration.
Try stop this as you are letting things out of your control get you down.

    (Original post by agm23)
Is it just me, or is this 'LAD' culture joke gotten just a little out of hand? I know the majority of the jokes said (initially) are just jokes, but from some of the comments I have read (i.e. "women are only good for punching, ****ing and making food" << holy crap!) I am starting to feel like our generation is going backwards, that women's rights really are something to be laughed at, and to absolutely hate women is the done thing to do. And unfortunately I am starting to believe them.
There is nothing funny about making jokes about beating people up, the people making/telling the jokes have maybe not experienced the pain of a serious physical assault. Sexist, Death etc etc, different people have different sense of humour and should know when it is inappropriate to make these types of jokes.

As a women, I feel demoralised and humilated. To stick up for yourself automatically makes you a 'stupid feminist'. To do nothing only allows people to treat you more like crap. I hate the stupid tv commercials aimed at women that make us look like imbeciles, only interested in buying new shoes and rolling our eyes at men. I feel like my own boyfriend looks down on me, and I am tired of people making off-hand insulting comments as if it is ok. For example, my 14 year old brother seems to think it ok to call me a '****ing whore' under his breath, even when we are just joking around.
You need to put a whoopin on your brother. And show him what happens to cheeky little bastards who use words they likely do not know to cause offence. Very disrespectful. If my gf had a little brother and he said this I would cause him a little pain.

I feel like my sex is feeble, and if any woman ever tries to stick up for equal rights (God forbid!) she will be insulted and pushed down by society - and not just men! More and more girls seem to think it 'cool' to side with men on extreme sexist 'jokes', which I simply don't understand.
Nah not society just divs really. Sounds like the girls you are talking about are maybe a bit dim.

    (Original post by agm23)
I suppose i just want to know WHY our generation seem to hate women so much? I don't hate men - but then again, I can see why men may think we do due to the idiotic representations of women on tv...It feels like there is so much venom in these LADgroups on websites, and I mean really HATE women, like we are not worth anything. No wonder so many I feel so ****...
Plenty of keyboard warriors out there. More than likely some squeaky teen trolling than an adult. Doubt they would air these bigoted views at the family dinner or to their gran or whatever.

None of my mates seem to hate women, they are nearly all right under the thumb lol.

    (Original post by agm23)
I'm scared to post this cause I can already tell I will receive humiliating comments. Am I the only one who feels this way? I feel like there is literally no hope for me in life if I am to stay this gender.
So what you saying? You wanna sex change due to what other people say online or wherever? No way don't do it.

Speak up for yourself and try not get lured in to arguments with tards and bigots.

Will point out what someone said to me on here other day.

A lot of the people online and in the real world have maybe read a few articles or maybe seen a news story, if you are lucky they have read maybe a book or two and all of a sudden they are experts on said subjects.

One of my mates describes someone as a K C song lol.(Kelly Clarkson has a song , Mr Knowitall but know nothing at all are some of the lyrics) Lol which will apply to a good proportion of people on here me thinks.

End of the day these dafties jus tawkin bawlls.

    All the best.

Bear in mind that people can put on whatever persona they wish on the internet. The people saying these things will not represent the views even of a moderate minority of the population. They most probably won't even be representative of the views of the people posting.

Well, I suppose anger and resentment is indicative of women now being perceived as a genuine threat to male power, which you could say is somewhat preferable to being deemed utterly feeble and too thick to compete.

So, you could call it progress? *shrug*

In any case you can't please everyone so just try your best to achieve what you want and be a good person. If anyone judges you negatively for that then they're a moron.

Lad culture is a phenomenon that is modern, simply because its archaic. Educated young men of 40 years ago were for women's right because it was new and relevant
It's as relevant as ever now.

don't ever feel like you need to wave the feminist flag, it's been waved, we're equal.
    Utter rubbish.

I just want to make one point... men get **** thrown at their direction as well, its not just women who have a hard life ya know?
Men are put into a 'box' as well e.g. if I was interested in fashion a great deal then I'm not 'masculine'. Fewer male victums report sexual assaults due to the huge social stigma placed on them.

Re: I hate being a woman.
I think the number of women who think this behaviour s acceptable is pretty appalling, as much the number of men who do. I dislike this notion in some circles that men are the sole source of 'the patriarchy' and that women should be left alone as their opinions are a result of brainwashing by men and it isn't their fault - when in fact, removing such false notions from women would be easier and give some additional, stable ground to further motions.

I find a lot of 'sexist' jokes more boring than offensive. Get back in the kitchen and so forth. It's as bad as, 'but then I took an arrow to the knee'. Just ain't funny. Tiresome.

Basically women are as much to blame for this whole predicament and I disagree with anyone who says otherwise and always will. A woman's responsible for herself, to imply that men can 'brainwash' women is to imply that a woman's mind is some kind of pliant tool with no idea of how to filter opinions out, and, well, humans are impressionable, but that includes men. If women are victims so are men - if men are to blame so are women.

The terms 'feminist' and 'radical feminist' are often confused... a feminist is any person, man or woman, who believes in equality regardless of sex and gender (though a lot of 'self styled' feminists actually are not, and worse the situation). The word is just a little too focused on women for my tastes, I think it serves to feed the flames of misogynists claiming all feminists are man-haters.

Anyway OP, point is you're right. But not everyone is like that. Your friends are unpleasant people; dispense with them. It's the only way. Find people you're comfortable with.

Your brother calling you a whore is a result of a lack of words to insult a woman. I dont like use whore or slag because I have nothing against women who get around a lot but in a situation where you are angry at a woman what words can you use? You cant use dickhead, ****, ****er because they only apply to males so guys end up using sexist words, even though they don't respect women as a whole less. We need some non sexist insults to use.

OP you really shouldn't let your younger brother get away with talking to you like that. Tell your parents if you can't stop him.

Yeah I do wish there were more gentlemen out there. Sigh.
