This is something that has gotten me down so much I often find myself in tears out of frustration.

Is it just me, or is this 'LAD' culture joke gotten just a little out of hand? I know the majority of the jokes said (initially) are just jokes, but from some of the comments I have read (i.e. "women are only good for punching, ****ing and making food" << holy crap!) I am starting to feel like our generation is going backwards, that women's rights really are something to be laughed at, and to absolutely hate women is the done thing to do. And unfortunately I am starting to believe them.

As a women, I feel demoralised and humilated. To stick up for yourself automatically makes you a 'stupid feminist'. To do nothing only allows people to treat you more like crap. I hate the stupid tv commercials aimed at women that make us look like imbeciles, only interested in buying new shoes and rolling our eyes at men. I feel like my own boyfriend looks down on me, and I am tired of people making off-hand insulting comments as if it is ok. For example, my 14 year old brother seems to think it ok to call me a '****ing whore' under his breath, even when we are just joking around.

I feel like my sex is feeble, and if any woman ever tries to stick up for equal rights (God forbid!) she will be insulted and pushed down by society - and not just men! More and more girls seem to think it 'cool' to side with men on extreme sexist 'jokes', which I simply don't understand.

I suppose i just want to know WHY our generation seem to hate women so much? I don't hate men - but then again, I can see why men may think we do due to the idiotic representations of women on tv...It feels like there is so much venom in these LADgroups on websites, and I mean really HATE women, like we are not worth anything. No wonder so many I feel so ****...

I'm scared to post this cause I can already tell I will receive humiliating comments. Am I the only one who feels this way? I feel like there is literally no hope for me in life if I am to stay this gender.
    a) What people write on the internet is very different from what they believe
    b) Welcome to modern Britain. There is no respect for anyone as guys are afraid to be open about what they think, and women simply can not win thanks to feminism.

Solution; move country or get into really good shape and watch as men will kill each other to make you happy

lol you really think our generation hates women more than any other generation ever?

also i agree with the : if your bf is looking down on you, maybe don't go out with idiots?

and tell your brother to stfu?

everyone gets demoralised in one way or the other in the media, if you really want it changed complain to whoever prints it/etc. but at the end of the day, mostttttt media and general public are pretty stupid so just ignore it and get on with your life. if this stuff is actually stopping you living your life, do something more than whine on a forum

I understand where your coming from. Its such a pity we still have alot of sexism even in 2012. I personally am fed up with music videos, it seems to me that nearly every single music video has females practically naked. Its disgusting, especially that so many young kids watch these videos and think that is normal. In the future if anyone says any sexist comments dont judge or question yourself, instead realise that these people are ill-educated and unworthy of your time. Sexism is no different than racism and should be frowned upon by all people. Equality for all is the only way forward.

    Aight, some problems:

    - Men generally still have control of most of the wealth and power in this world. As to why is debatable. You want less naked women in music videos? Well, take away the money that's paying them, and there will be less. Wealth and power will always take priority over morality, sad truth.

    - There's still physical barriers. As much as society is moving towards prioritising the mind over the body, there's still physical differences that will ALWAYS affect perception. Dudes are simply bigger and stronger. Everyone subconsciously respects people that are more powerful than them. You don't want to **** with someone who could beat you down. If you're one of those with the power, you're in a safer position to let rip at those that are smaller. Sure, law is usually enough of a deterrent to prevent things getting physical. But the sentiment still exists.

    - Guys are ****ing insecure. We're human. We generalize like everyone else, and if we're slighted in some way by women, it's going to foster negative opinion. Not in all of us, but enough to get recognized and heard. Combine this with the above fact that we're in a safe position, and **** is spewed.

    - Women are still divided. There's plenty that would still rather exploit the flaws in men, taking money/power, but degrading themselves. Again, money/power > morality. Those that want change aren't big enough in number, and they're not really pushing in the same direction. It's like trying to break down a door by pelting a thousand stones, one by one. It won't nearly be as effective as if you used one huge rock.

I just want to make one point... men get **** thrown at their direction as well, its not just women who have a hard life ya know?
Men are put into a 'box' as well e.g. if I was interested in fashion a great deal then I'm not 'masculine'. Fewer male victums report sexual assaults due to the huge social stigma placed on them.
The few guys who inevitably reply to threads such as this with 'BUT MEN GET STEREOTYPED ETC TOO SO DEAL WITH IT' baffle me. No-one said men had no such problems. It's not a competition. Do you really think women trying to eradicate misogynistic attitudes threatens you in some way? That you're better off as long as women are still tied up with the last of the feminist battle?

Edit: Negged by a girl. ****ing typical. You are a blight on your own sex.

Was watching the Jeremy Kyle Show today, yes I know terrible but it's my guilty pleasure, and the adverts from Cheeky Bingo were terrible! Saying all women cared about was shopping, watching calories and getting it off with men who were not 'single'. I'm a bit of a manly man if you get what I mean but I must admit if I was a women I would be getting pee'd off. Also lad culture is starting to get on my nerves, just immature boys making stupid jokes and they are not real men.

Unfortunately the anonymity of the internet allows people's true feelings to come out.

What can you do? Hold your head up high, step up, don't take it from anyone. The Lad culture is a reaction from some insecure people because women are getting closer and closer to equality every single day, and they perceive it as a threat. (Note I haven't said "men perceive it as a threat" - women can participate and perpetuate lad culture too).

Really? To be honest, I think things are worse for men right now than for women, lots of TV ads for example characterise men as shallow beings interested in nothing but sex.
Or ironically as sex symbols - take the new carte noire coffee adverts, mr average joe bloggs isnt good enough but bring about the slim model in the silk shirt with a cup of coffee and shes tearing his clothes off despite not thirty seconds before she was talking about no time for anything.

so simple even a man can do it - Overn Pride.

OP i think you need one thing - a thicker skin

The majority of men don't hate women - it's called banter, and is probably in response to the extreme man-hating feminists and some of the awful things they say. They're not laughing at women's rights, they're laughing at jokes about women - why don't you find some jokes about men and laugh at those? It's called equality and it's what women wanted all those years ago.

If you hear him say that, call him something back, no-one's stopping you! TV adverts will always be stupid, they have to target their advert at their target audience and, in the cases of things like Lynx, their target audience is men who want to smell good and attract women - so, by showing a man spraying Lynx on himself and suddenly having lots of women fawning over him, they're attracting that target audience. Don't like the advert? Don't watch it!

I feel like my sex is feeble, and if any woman ever tries to stick up for equal rights (God forbid!) she will be insulted and pushed down by society - and not just men! More and more girls seem to think it 'cool' to side with men on extreme sexist 'jokes', which I simply don't understand.
Okay, I'm a girl and I think sexist jokes are funny because they are JOKES. If a randomer walked up to me in the street and told me that I should kill myself because I'm a woman, that would be extreme and I wouldn't laugh - but when people online or my male friends or my boyfriend tell me to get back to the kitchen or make him a sammich (which happens regularly with my boyfriend ) I don't stand up and launch into a rant about equal rights (which, by the way, would be stupid - if someone tells you a joke and you start blabbing on about it, you deserve to be insulted, whereas if you actually believe it and stand up for it all the time instead of just using it when you pwdu because you don't like a joke, that's fine), I laugh along or even joke back to him.

Well... if it bothers you that much you could have a sex change? :lolwut:

Or you can man up () and realize that it is almost always a joke, designed to make people laugh, and you don't have to watch it or read it - don't follow the LADgroups, don't watch the adverts and programmes that show women in that light etc.

What do you make of the BBC3 show "World Series of Dating"? If we're going to talk about sexism on TV, I think that is extremely sexist towards men - although, of course, you can't be sexist towards men, men can only be sexist towards women, right?

It really sounds like you DO hate men, and are looking for any excuse to take their jokes too far. I don't doubt there are some men out there who do hate women, just like there are women who do hate men (extreme feminists mentioned above being one example) - but to say that a whole generation hates men, something you seem to have decided on just from hearing some sexist jokes that men have probably grabbed off sickipedia, is rude.

I was on Dragons' Den but got chucked out.

Apparently asking Deborah Meaden to "**** off and get me a sandwich while the men talk business" is unacceptable.

To the OP, you think comments on the internet are an accurate representation of male opinions about women?

The internet is a world for people who want to let off steam in anonymity. They say and do things on the internet that they couldn't possibly explain, or say they believe in with a straight face in the real world.

Re: I hate being a woman.
I like banter as much as the next person.

However, what really does irk me is the reaction you often get if you say you're a feminist. I'd consider myself a feminist simply because I believe that women and men should be equal politically, socially, etc. That doesn't mean that I'm a man hater, the key term here is 'equality'.

Still, it's almost as if it's a shameful thing to admit. I simply don't understand why. In fact, I've noticed that it's often other women who seem to have a problem with the term. For instance, in one of my classes (all female), we were discussing feminism, to which the majority rolled their eyes, with one saying she wish that they'd 'shut up'. How bloody ungrateful.

Anyway, I best stop now, could go on for ages

OP, don't let it get you down. There is no shame in being a woman, just as there is no shame in being a man.
