Right I have a normal DS lite that I'm playing Leaf Green on atm but it's really annoying that some pokemon have to be traded to evolve... none of my friends have pokemon so I can't really trade with anyone.

I have a DSi though so can I trade using the DS lite and DSi even though its a gameboy game? I only have one pokemon game (leaf green) atm but if I'd like to get another so that's not a problem really. What other games can I trade through Leaf green with?

Unfortunately the DS line don't support the connection kits from the Game Boy line, so you're stuck with what you've got unless you want to buy two GBAs, another game and a connection cable.

As Gofre says, you can't use the DS to trade with GBA games. However if you get any of the DS pokemon games, you can migrate pokemon from your copy of Leaf Green. You won't be able to move them back though.
