I think I've been caught speeding
Well I know I have
. I go through this road every morning at 6am. It's a really long, open road. Everytime I go through it, it's dead. So, being a 30mp zone, sometimes I go 40mp.
This morning was the same and I got 2 flashes
. It's a gatso speed camera (from behind). I have went through this same street at about 40mp, in the dark, and it's never flashed before, why is that? Maybe I have been flashed during daylight and I've not noticed. Would I have the flash from behind in daylight? Obviously I didn't know this camera existed untill the flashes. It's well hidden beside a tree.

Re: I think I've been caught speeding
Well I don't know about rest of UK but new drivers in Scotland only have 6point limit for 2years - basically meaning I'm probably ****ed. I think they offer new drivers who are caught speeding a 'speeding awarness course' and that avoid points on the licence, I hope lol

Re: I think I've been caught speedingSo there's a speed camera and you still speed?(Original post by GlasgowRangers)

Re: I think I've been caught speedingHave you already got 3 points? Worst case scenario is you get 3 for this one.(Original post by GlasgowRangers)

Re: I think I've been caught speeding
You may be lucky - sometimes they don't have film in them ( I don't think they are digital yet ) and if they have already caught a load of people the film has run out and you might escape. I know this because it has happened to me on a number of occasions ( yes I know - the shame)

Re: I think I've been caught speedingNo I've not got any points but since I've been down the same street a lot of times maybe I've been flashed more than once and just didn't notice it? Hopefully not.(Original post by walterwhite123)

Re: I think I've been caught speedingYeah I hope it has ran out of film. As I've said above, I hope it's only 3points. I hope that I've not been caught more times by the same camera before even getting a letter about the first one.(Original post by squeakysquirrel)

Would I know if I've been flashed by a gatso camera during the day?Last edited by GlasgowRangers; 19-04-2012 at 08:47. -
Re: I think I've been caught speeding
If you're in Scotland (assuming by your username) they aren't allowed to hide speed cameras. Did you go back and find an actual speed camera? And if it's there maybe you can contest it by showing pictures of how it's concealed and there are no signs...
...sorry if you're not actually in Scotland :P -
Re: I think I've been caught speedingYeh I'm in Scotland. I said it was hidden but really it wasn't. What i mean is when you're approaching it there is a tree and once you pass the tree you notice the camera, so basically you've been flashed just as you notice it lol.(Original post by conway!)

Re: I think I've been caught speeding
I could understand if it was forward facing and it got you as you did the customary 'slow down before the camera', but if you take that route every day then shame on you. You must be daydreaming not to notice a speed camera on a road you've taken so often.
Get yourself a new TOMTOM as they have speed camera locations on them. Absolute godsend, and you can update it often as people upload new speed camera locations all the time. -

Re: I think I've been caught speedingYes you would - you can see the flash even in the day. I cycle past a camera and it is very bright.(Original post by GlasgowRangers)

Good advice is to get a Gatso aware Tom Tom but they are irritating if you are in an area with lots of speed cameras.... but cheaper than a fine, points and the inevitable rise in insurance. -
Re: I think I've been caught speeding
If you're going to speed, don't do it where people are going to notice and care. And make a special point to avoid speed cameras if you want to keep your licence!
Yes, a lot of drivers speed - but they're a bit wise about where and when to do it. You clearly aren't. Speed cameras are very easy to notice and you should never be surprised by them.
You mustn't be complacent about that sort of thing. If you aren't concentrating whilst driving then that's bad enough. If at the same time you're also in excess of speed limits, that's even more foolish. Hopefully you'll be lucky this time and it will be out of film or something - but learn the lesson now! -
Re: I think I've been caught speeding
It's OK! I had a minor fit thinking I'd been caught speeding two weeks ago, I was on a country lane which went from the national speed limit smack bang into 30 once in the town (all on one road!) with a speed camera just as you emerge from around the corner.
Next time, don't speed
I've learnt my lesson without getting caught, don't have to learn yours by getting points on your license!

Re: I think I've been caught speeding
In England the police have to notify you that you've been caught within 14 days, so after that unless the letter gets lost in the post you'll be safe. Also some cars speedos are set high and when combined with the tolerance before you are prosecuted for speeding you may be ok if your speedo said around 40.
(not sure if these things apply in scotland though)
