Re: The Greatest Football Match You Have Ever Seen?Yeah, they were still 2-0 down with about 15 minutes to go. Scored 2 in the last 3 minutes to win it though. And Turkey got their keeper sent off after that too.(Original post by Dorito)
Was it Turkey that came from 2-0 down against Czech Republic at Euro 2008?
Think they scored 2 goals around the 88th minute mark, amazing game!
In the game before that against Switzerland they scored a last minute winner too.
Because of the keeper's red card in the last game of the groups, they had to put Recber in goal for the Quarter Final against Croatia. 0-0 at full time, Recber makes a mistake to give Croatia the lead in the 119th minute. Recber then sets up the equaliser in the 120th minute. Turkey go through on penalties.
It was ludicrous, all the way through the tournament. -
Re: The Greatest Football Match You Have Ever Seen? This. Zidane was mesmerising.(Original post by mhussac)
France vs Brazil 2006, I think it was the quarter finals of the world cup.
Epic match, Zidane was amazing in that match -
Re: The Greatest Football Match You Have Ever Seen?
Newcastle's 4-4 Arsenal.......ummmm....
Don't see why people are selecting Utd's 8-2 or City's 1-6. Those were dull games, as a United fan I got bored because after 4 we were kicking Wenger's wounded animals when they were down.
I forgot Chelsea 3-5 Arsenal, that was pure attacking football. I'm a United fan but I thought Arsenal 2-1 Barcelona was exceptional, Wilshere and Koscielny were immense. ARSHAVIN!!!
I thought Arsenal 2-4 United in the champions league was epic, we took the Gunners to the cleaners.
A good game has to be a close match, have fantastic goals, a tense atmosphere, unpredictability and great players on form. Tough to call. Personally I'm going for AC v Liverpool, immense. -
Re: The Greatest Football Match You Have Ever Seen?Well, United's 2-8 victory was a dreadful day as an Arsenal fan!! It was men v boys though, and we had had an appalling start to the season!! 6-1 CityvUntited amused me, I love it when Utd get hammered!!(Original post by That Bearded Man)

Which year was your 4-2 victory in the Champions League?
Chelsea-Arsenal and AC-Liverpool were pretty amazing games!! And Arsenal-Barca is always excellent, two teams who know how to play the Beautiful Game, pure magic.
Just a pity about that disgusting Van Persie red card in the second leg - we'd have gotten through at the Nou Camp!!

Istanbul...
The England Germany 5-1 is cool too, primarily because we thrashed them and there was Gerrard, Owen, Heskey, Carragher, Barnby, Fowler, McManaman all involved. My 4 fave players at the time (Owen, Heskey, Fowler, Gerrard - Mad, I know, how fun to be a kid again!) as well as other Liverpool players. -
Re: The Greatest Football Match You Have Ever Seen?My favourite Gerrard goal, wish I was there(Original post by TattyBoJangles)
2005 Champions League Final
As for ones that I've been there for.. I'd say Liverpool's 3 - 1 over Olympiakos in the 04/05 CL group stages. They scored first and we needed 3 goals to go through. Lo and behold, in the dying minutes of the game, Stevie G scored a boomer to put us through.
I was 10 at the time, and was sitting in the Kop with my dad. When we scored the third goal, everyone went absolutely mental. My dad turned around to pick me up and celebrate, but a random man on my other side had already picked me up. I ended up being passed along the row and then back to my dad
I consider it to be the best match purely because of that memory. -
Re: The Greatest Football Match You Have Ever Seen?I'd say in the vote, United 1-6 City will get loads because all the "neutrals" are anti-United. The fact we actually conceded two against Arsenal is testament to De Gea's poor start. I see what you mean, the 2-4 was actually 1-3(Original post by simonbellringer)

And when I was googling it, I also found our 2-4 win that ended your unbeaten run (John O'Shea's delicate chip) As for Arsenal v Barca, I don't think it would have made any difference, but still, harsh on van Persie. -
Re: The Greatest Football Match You Have Ever Seen? It's my favourite of his, too(Original post by pbsjohnz)
My favourite Gerrard goal, wish I was there
Obviously I didn't watch it on TV, but Andy Gray's commentary when watching it back makes it even better
The atmosphere was absolutely immense, and I remember being even more chuffed because I got the Thursday off school. Took us 2 hours to get out of the car park and got home at 3am.
Sorry for the rambling, but ah.. memories.. -
Re: The Greatest Football Match You Have Ever Seen?Which unbeaten run!! We have had so many!! The one that ended our Invincible 49 Premier League run was a 2-0 at Old Trafford, and everything went as wrong as it could have. Giggs should have been sent off and we should have got a free-kick on the end of the area when he bought someone down blatantly. Then Rooney (Shrek!!) blatantly dived (he was at least 10cm away from Campbell, it was BLATANT!!) yet the ref gave a penalty which wasnt. One of the worst matches ever!! And when RVP went it was 1-1 so we would have gone through still!! And it was a Fabregas mistake that gave them the opener, nothing else, we had held Messi till then!! Not just harsh on RVP that, an absolutely outrageous desicion, and it showed the world the refs favour towards Barca and bias against Arsenal!!(Original post by That Bearded Man)

But at least you are honest about the anti-United thing, many red-misty eyed United fans arent!! Personally the main grudge I had against United was Cristiano Ronaldo, could never stand the whiny, diving little greaseball, and I couldnt care about how his football was. But that is an argument for another thread!!
Just a pity about that disgusting Van Persie red card in the second leg - we'd have gotten through at the Nou Camp!!
