The Avengers - April 26th
Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

The Avengers - April 26th
I'm not sure how much you should rely on early reviews and the tossing around of the usual hyperboles but both the reviews and reactions on Twitter have been positively buzzing about the film.
Perfect start to the summer after exams."The Avengers" (or as it is called in the U.K, where we saw the film ahead of its opening next week, "Marvel Avengers Assemble") is thrilling, hilarious and brilliantly executed. It's not just the best Marvel movie to date (although it is that), and it's not just in the very top tier of superhero movies (although it is), but it's one of the most all-around satisfying summer blockbusters since God-knows-when.
"The Avengers" should never have worked. Too many characters, too many egos, an inexperienced director, an interference-happy studio. That it works as well as it does -- that it's as satisfying a tentpole movie as you could hope for -- is something close to a miracle

The Avengers is a statement of form: this is not only what superhero movies should be, it is what all so-called blockbusters should be – albeit perhaps with the slightest retuning towards perfection. Because without the off-putting undertones of other superhero series, their odd parallels with puberty and their unwanted preoccupations with humanism trumping superhumanism, The Avengers is also arguably the purest comic book adaptation of all time in both spirit and accomplishment. Its entertainment factor is as explicit, as visceral as reading a pannelled story, and if cinema is to be judged only on how it makes a member of its audience feel, this was prime quality, because I left tonight’s European premiere screening full of transferred adrenaline, and keen beyond all else to try and convince others to share that feeling.
In short, Joss Whedon deserves every hyperbolic showering of praise he will undoubtedly receive as the reviews come in.

Re: The Avengers - April 26thYeah like Yogurt said, he's 'inexperienced' in film directing, Serenity aside. Even that had a budget of $40 million compared to this which is around $220 million with several high profile stars and Marvel properties riding on it. This would play out well for him in really breaking into films and letting his talent shine.(Original post by Bobifier)
Is Joss Whedon inexperienced?
I will be intrigued to see how they try to make believable the idea that there exists some sense in which a bow and arrow is more suited to the use it is given in this film than a big gun.
And there was definitely a moment in Thor where Hawkeye had a choice between sniper and bow and he went with the bow. Personal preference I guess. -
Re: The Avengers - April 26th
Avengers Assemble - 9/10 - Brilliant, brilliant film, 2hrs+ of superheroes, only loses the mark for the storyline as predicted earlier, the bickering, before realising that they must work together, though the story itself held up well together, the 3D was impressive in parts, not so in others, as is usually the case for this sort of thing. Gonna have to rewatch thor and capt. america again now to find the stuff they were linking back to in the film.

Re: The Avengers - April 26th
Good lord this film

9.8/10
For me, better than anything I have seen so far.
There will be folks going on about predictable storyline, shoddy this or that blah blah... don't give a **** at all. They can go jizz over the Dark Knight Rises, I have already used my juice here

Re: The Avengers - April 26thI'm sure there will be a part 2 (although nothing confirmed yet), but apparently Iron Man 3 will be pretty much a sequel to Avengers Assemble.(Original post by BlackThunder10)
The Avengers Assemble is too badass, got to be a part 2. Totally amazing awesomeness. A must watch for all everyone. -
Re: The Avengers - April 26thWell, they'll have a pre-credits thing, but wait for the scrolling credits before you leave!(Original post by Ape Gone Insane)
Is there a post-credits scene I should stay for? My friends never stay for credits.
